Can't select reverse any ideas.

Bit of a strange 1 this.

Now all was fine with the gears. When I put the box in the car. I put it in 1st gear to tighten the crank pulley up. Now the clutch isn't bled off correctly as yet so after tightening the pulley it was difficult to get it out of 1st gear. Since then the car won't go into reverse. All the other gears are fine but can't find reverse. The gate opens when I lift then lever but I seem to be hitting a brick wall trying to put into gear.

Any ideas I'm totally stumped.

You should lock the crank pully to torque the bolt really.

Have you got the car running yet? Check the shifter to make sure it's in correctly.

If the engine is off it should go into all the gears with the clutch up anyway but when you get it running see what it's like then. If it is the clutch it will give you a problem with other gears as well if it's not it will be the box itself.

Have you had it apart at all?

I've got an ATI pulley on Lee, is there a way to lock that as I couldn't think of one.

The engine isn't running yet, hopefully in the next couple of weeks max.

All the other gears select fine, reverse just doesn't seen to be there. It's like I'm pushing against something solid.

I'm not sure wether it's just a coincidence that, On the same night I tightened my pulley and removed the clutch line to re-route it.

Think I best bleed it off and go from there.

I never took the box to bits, I didn't have the bottle too, to be honest. As well that I bought it with only 34k on it.

Ah ok, you can make a locking tool for the ATI or buy one from them.

The problem is all the force of you tightening the bolt Is going down the drive train.

Bleed the line to see if it makes a difference but it should go in without the clutch . I would take the shifter cover off and have a look.

Tbh you need to get it running really, then you can see what the clutch is doing.

Check you have the gear stick bracket in the correct way, you may have fitted it incorrectly so the gate isn't in the right place.

Yeah it in the right place, I can feel the gate opening, that's not a problem but just can't find where reverse drops in.

I made 1 for the stock pulley, I suppose it's just the same idea. To lock it I just use the Torxs bolt holes in the front??

I'll get under the car tonight and have a look to see if everything is in order with the cradle etc, and will also take the shifter cover off to have a look under there. Failing this, I'll bleed it off again then get it and get it running and see what happens.

Sure you're aiming for the right slot....... (just to lighten the mood :))

Never had that problem before I'm usually a cracking shot, I used to bullseye womprats in my T16 back home lol.

All sorted guys I hope. I took the shifter surrounds off to investigate and found nothing wrong. So I undid the 4 bolts that held the shifter in place and tried reverse again and it went in. I thought it was the stopped for the gate but at closer inspection it cleared it fine. It turns out that the tolerance on the hole in the middle of the shifter was so small it was actually hitting the side of the bore before it engaged. So I put it into reverse and then bolted the shifter back down again and were all sorted. All gears are perfect now, well apart from 5th. It goes in no sweat but doesn't go in as far as all the other gears. As lee sais I'm better off getting the car running and then see how things lie. All being well I'll be starting in a week on sat.
