Very weird accident in Southampton, any ideas?

I've just been through west quay and discovered a weird accident. I saw only one car, a small pug in the middle lane. The wind screen smashed with blood. As far as I could see, there was no other damage and it was absolutely covered in police.

A camera was set up (as if a body was being photographed).

The strange thing is, it didn't look like a car crash. I'm wandering what the hell it could have possibly been.

If anyones in southampton and has any idea, Im interested in finding out what happened.

I'd imagine he hit a pedestrian who went airbourne until their head hit the windscreen. There might be very slight damage to the front bumper, or maybe not, its only a pair of human legs. There wouldn't be lots of police for an animal strike.

Depends what sort of animal you hit, the police start getting strict if you hit a deer as theres numerous laws in place to make sure your not doing it on purpose(which does happen, farmers in Landies do it to sell them on).

For those who haven't been through Southampton, west quay is a three lane carriageway in a city with water being the only natural thing within miles. It was no animal. I'm not entirely sure if someone was hit. It was a strange horrific scene.

The entire carriage way was closed. We were diverted along a road next to the scene. There could have been a good 10 police cars, and an ambulance. I'm assuming other ambulances were sent back. It looks like everyone who was involved has been taken away from the scene.

I would guess pedestrian hit also. The fact that the camera is there would lead me to that assumption. If it was an animal hit, yes they may take it seriously depending on the animal but, they wouldn't be taking pictures.

Unfortunately I would say fatality based on the police presence.

Hopefully no alcohol or drugs involved.

In the middle lane? you'd think he would have time to swerve to one side, not be in the middle lane.

Going by the time of night anything is possible. The motorway leading to where I live from work isn't lit. If ANYTHING was in front of me without reflective material I wouldn't see it until I was literally driving through/past it. The headlights will only give you about 50 feet of useable light.
