Bobbeh
... but which would you chose: A new Vauxhall Insignia (160 CDTi) or Ford Mondeo (140bhp TDCI) ? Exciting I know
jevansio
... but which would you chose: To get knocked down by? I like the Insignia, but I would never buy another VH, I guess this is a company car choice?
j_jza80
I'd go for the Mondeo.

dangerous brain
I've heard some very negative stuff about the insiginia from people that have both bought them and long term hired them. Mondeo I've heard nothing.
Bobbeh
Yeah, odd that considering the Insignia is supposed to have won a load of awards for its design etc.
Scott
Mondeo by miles. Don't worry about the power differences, can easily be clawed by a simple bluefin remap
johnny g
I'd actually have the Vec. A mate has a Mondeo TDCi and he's had nothing but problems with it. Injector, ECU, intake, cat problems, etc.
Swampy442
How about an Accord?

Injector, ECU, intake, cat problems, etc. That's the older model bud, if it is the problems I am thinking of. Don't know of any ECU, Intake or Cat problems but I do know the Injectors & the EGR valves tend to cause issues. The Injector issue is the expensive one (Around £800 inc fitting etc), EGR can be easily bypassed. The CAT can be replaced with a decat, and being a diesel the emissions will actually be lower. I don't think the Vectra is the same as the Insignia, but if they haven't updated their engines the Vauxhalls are known for chewing up their oil pump seals and fubarring the entire engine (The same as the 2.0l previous mondeo, although it was the fuel pump IIRC). All the creases have been ironed out with the new mondeos.

Havard
I prefer the looks of the VX but I would haveto go with the reliablilty and ride of the Mondeo. H.

Totally agree Paul, I actually think VX have finally cracked their styling with the Insignia, really brought the range bang up to date. Yeah the Mondeo is a modern-ish looking car but it just isn't as edgy as the Insignia is. The ride with my Mondeo is just outstanding (ST), the car has done almost 80k and other than a bit of a numb steering feel (like that new) the car handles fantastic and really inspires a lot of confidence. Scott
Legendary car I would absolutely love a car similar to yours. Watched the topgear episode the other day with the 530d (I think), the one with the claim that it would be as fast as the V8 iirc. Just reminded me of your car. And affordable now You know what I fancy? One of them VW Phaetons, theyre cheap as chips now. How much are the BMWs going for now when shopping around? Abz
Colleague picked me up in a Insignia diesel when we went to work in Milton Keynes. I was very impressed, not a massive fan of Vauxhalls & I have had a couple. I loved the interior & cabin was brilliant, the exterior looks pretty nice as well, done fantastic on fuel & had plenty of poke. As it is a company car, I'd pick the most comfortable option. If they have long term issues then you need not worry. His one is a couple of years old & all his had done is brakes & tyres & so far has been good. I had one of the last shape and although it looked as bland as bog water it never let me down in 70K miles. I went from Wigan to Birmingham as a passenger in the newest shape last year and was amazed by the quality of the ride on the motorway. The boot on the estate was huge too. When I had to choose a car in April, I looked at the Insignias first as I fancied one of the higher spec ones. I never got as far as a test drive as my then boss offered me the chance of a Black A4 S-line and it was all over from that moment..!! Still, had the Audi for 10 months and loved every mile. It also looks fanastic..!! H.

Havard
How much are the BMWs going for now when shopping around? We are on the lookout for one in the summer. Best deal I found was a 2007 with about 60K miles. £14K. If you wan't older or higher mileage then there are some cheap cars out there. Bang a private plate on and you are laughing. H.
