Scott has a point, all the BPU cars than run fast 1/4 miles times will be set up for drag racing i.e aftermarket torque converter, built auto box, sticky tyres etc.

Exactly, some people just can't see the wood for the trees though.

Taking any BPU car in the list with a decent time and putting a single turbo in it will only result in a faster 1/4 mile time. Saying 1 car is faster than another car with a completely different set of permutations is just pointless. Drivers have a HUGE impact on 1/4 mile times as does mechanical sypmathy.

FWIW the potential of any car can be seen by it's trap speed.

Very true mate, the top two BPU cars that did run a lot faster than small singles both were set up to run just that, i would say though a BPU supra with stock running gear vs a small single well set up with stock running gear would show the difference between to two, also bare in mind people who have gone single, don't tend to do it for 1/4 mile times but more for the power delivery etc although some just like a nice big turbo to look at.

People who have spend big on singles to be fast down the 1/4 mile would wipe the floor with any BPU car set up.

JPs time shows this in spades. With a decent drag setup he cracked the 10s in his previous-previous setup.

BPUs hitting 120 traps are seriously sorted for the 1/4 mile. They shouldn't theoretically be able to do that but they are hitting 60 in such a short distance that they have a massive distance to rack up great trap speeds. Most singles should be hitting around the 120 mark with relative ease, it's the 60ft time that kills the singles.

Another thing to remember is traction. A BPU Supra is pretty much on the limit of grip with decent tyres for a fast launch, fire a single into the mix and you need some soft rubber to get off the line fast. 888s (or similar) would be a minimum to get any sort of respectable 60ft time with a 600hp+ car IMO. Most of the "slower" 1/4 mile traps in single cars have been on 19" wheels and the like, with drivers just looking to have a good day out and come home with their car in 1 piece.

Yeah i agree Scott, i think we have been here long enough to know the way it really is, i remember Brian and others when they actually set their records with BPU cars, i know their spec etc, it was far from normal everyday BPU supra's we see but they did a fantastic job and their records have stood the test of time.

It will sink in to others :D

Some of the single turbo times are shocking, drag racing is not as easy as people think though.

Ive always thought it a shame a lot of the times are not kept in that thread, like my 10.9 on an old T67dbb, if its a different turbo setup the time should stay imo, gives people that look at the thread an idea of what is possible on what turbo's, not sure if anyone else here has got in the 10's on a 67?

126mph.

Totally agree with everything Scott says, I think I pulled a 125mph terminal at 12.4, this totally illustrates the driver skill/car setup is paramount to a good time. Me thinks the OP is out to stir up a shit storm :/

To the contrary, simply a genuine curiosity of the figures.

There is one other factor that everybody is forgetting, traction! unless set up for drag racing the Supra is not at all good at getting its power down from a standing start, like quite a few other road cars, the 200SX is another that comes to mind, any quick times from a single are usually because they are starting to get some grip by 1/3-1.2 track.
