Dissapointing insurance quotes!

Had a shop about this morning for my 550bhp single insurance with every mod declared, and was pretty disappointed really!

Adrian flux was the most at £1100?

Octain was £720

And another was £620 but didn't really seem to offer the same services as the above!

I am 32, I have 12 years no claims and a clean license, car was INS for 3 thousand miles a year garaged and insured for like for like value of about 12k.

I've read a few threads and I think it's still quite pricey!

What u guys paying?

I'm paying £900 on my UK TT6 with Admiral on a multicar with my Mum and sister, should go down a bit when I sell my Golf and put the 3 years NCB onto the Supra.

I'm 22, drive up to 10,000 miles a year, keep the car on my drive at home, been driving for 5 years (on 8th March) and as I said above, that £900 is with 0 NCB.

When the car is a UK spec have seen drastic figure differences between its Jap counterpart.

£900 @ 22 and 0 NCB! Very good though!!

Oh yeeeeaaah! :D The guy I spoke to at Admiral said when I add the 3 years NCB that it should go down to about £750-800, so that's not bad at all :)

Just been in touch with lynbrook classic £340 all in incl. breakdown cover for a n/a with a mileage of 5,000 per annum and

livingstones waterman wanted £296 plus breakdown at £59 with a mileage of 7,500 per annum !

I'm 43yr's old but the advisor said, your no claims doesn't come into the equation on a classic ins. which was nice lol

I have basically rang about all day and got quotes from loads of modified insurance companies for my single build.

Flux, sky, Octain etc

A company/broker called 'performance modified' were the best by far in the end coming in at £750 all in with no claims protection and european cover for upto 30 days and a replacment car included!

Not the cheapest originally but after further phone calls to the cheaper one it was infect going to cost another £180 and didn't have the other options above.

I would recommend them, Adrian flux were very disappointing really didn't even want to compete with other quotes, and had no interest I was a member of our club with discounts etc!

For all you tt and Na fellas admiral were always the cheapest but won't pay out for modifications but do actually insure some which is strange?

As I have said over the last few years my fully comp with them has been under £300 so the best by far!

Hope that helps a few people out ;-)

Sorry to hear it was so high when you were only paying £300 before. Sucks, but at least it's all sorted now.

I hate calling round insurance companies, it's the worst way to spend a day.

My insurance with admiral was only £179, I was hoping for my single build it would be around the £500 mark but I was wrong!

Ah, I thought you meant you insured the single for £300.

As said before, as you're only 32 then it's not too bad at all for a single. Hope you find a cheaper price next year ;)

Livingstones have always given me great quotes, And they are 1 of only a few that do agreed value for new private customers.

I really don't understand how these insurer's calculate these 'one off' quotes for singles. I am paying £697 with Adrian Flux for the same sized (GT30) single as you at 27 with 7yrs NCB.

Could have been lucky I suppose, but also the area I live in is regarded as very safe and that will have a marked effect on the price.

I'd stop worrying about insurance prices though and start enjoying the car! ;)

Just think, I've owned my Supra for less than a month (8th Jan) and I've spent over £250 on fuel all ready. The longest drive I've taken her on is about an hour away and the rest is just aimless driving around for fun. I've spent over a quarter of my insurance premium in fuel so I'm not too bothered about how much the insurance is. I was willing to pay up to £2500 for it if I got a J-spec!

Just to name and shame them, i rang them yesterday to get a multi car quote for my Supra and Mini after my last insurers cocked mine up and they quoted me £1800 for the two...almost £1600 of that was for the Supra !!! £1600 is a joke, which is what i told him, and he even had the cheek to ask me if i thought it was overpriced. He then went to speak to his "manager" and came back, no more than 1 minute later, and said they could do the Soop for £1000, £600 off what he'd quoted me 60seconds ago, with no explanation. I told him jog on and hung up. Con artists.

Rang Sky after and they quoted me £650, and mirrored my no claims on the Mini.

I rang them before and the girl I spoke to knew nothing about the modifications. I had to explain exactly what a boost controller is and what the catalytic converter is. I expected more.

lot of things that people forget on these type of threads,

are the post code ratings vary a great deal, some of us down in wales, some in scotland, some in london,

the difference premium wise can be hundreds of pounds difference.

e.g. at my parents house, the premiumis 1800. when its in my home with my mrs, 30 mins away, premium is 1100. obviously "better area" less claims ratio.

just to sumarise the area we live in plays a huge part.

I've been shopping for quotes all week and found that whereas all the well known specialist companies used to give quotes over the phone they all now say they will have to call me back, and most of them don't. I tried Lynbrook as suggested on here recently but they said they wouldn't quote for a BPU import. Seems to be getting harder every year.
