What is 'too much play' in a bush?

Not sure there is a definative answer to that.. The only way to get an exact answer may be to get in touch with Toyota/Lexus and see if they will tell you from their technical data.. Depending on what sort of bush it is and where as to what i'd say is excessive or not. You should in theory not be able to pull on something and make it move but lever bar, maybe, yes.

How much movement we talking about? An easier test is to compare it to the other side and see what that is like.. But whatever, i'd say no more than 2-3mm but that is a wild guess not knowing what arm/bush is on, if that makes sense.

Thats my problem, depends on the force you apply etc. They all look in reasonable condition, no splits etc and no play using your hands but something is definately up.

There shouldn't be any play at all, flex yes(unless you have uprated bushes like the neoprene one's), but no play.

Remember the small amount of play you feel when checking for play will be massive in what you feel through the suspension when driving, especially if it affects camber, caster or toe.

if you got that much play id replace them or just poly bush the whole car will definatly make it handle better what ever you do

I think quite a few people here have had problems with the Poly bush kits (I could be wrong though). If they need replacing I'd go with OEM parts.

For the main wishbones as far as im aware you can only buy the complete unit from Toyota, from what i've read the bush kits don't appear to last very long where as the o/e arms are good for over 100,000 miles, well my uk's were but ofcourse this could vary from car to car.

The biggest downside is their not cheap, i have replaced all mine with new o/e and the car after a full geo at Centre Gravity drives very nicely, even on silly big 19's :)

I havent had any trouble with my R2 bushes they have been on the car for around 2 years now and still look new :)

Not sure about the other brands though.

If they do fail then i will just upgrade/replace them with new Ikeya formula arms :D
