Sorry for the :hijack: but when changing the pump to the walbro, i noticed that the plug is different, so obviously you have to cut the wires and then join them on to the old plug using the crimps supplied.

Do these joints need to be insulated in anyway.

If so with what?

Thanks

There is a relay or something in the passenger side rear wheel arch that controls the pump. Try searching for the 12volt fuel mod. That should tell you where it is. Could just be just this relay.

Thanks Smarty, thats my next thing to check.

Righto - There is a plug that goes on top of the fuel pump cage, it has five connections on it. Three are for the sender unit, two are pump power and ground. Unplug this plug, then do the diagnostics port trick to put power into the fuel system. Multimeter the blue-red wire (I think it's that one, it's one of the thicker wires on the plug) and see if you are getting battery voltage. This will tell us if the pump cage is getting any power when it should be.

If it is - you need to take the pump cage back out, and plug in the electrics to it and then put the ignition on and see if the pump spins (watch out, it'll probably have some petrol stored in it and that'll go everywhere). Check the voltage at the pump if it doesn't spin. If it does spin it's probably a bad connection on the pump cage plug.

If the voltage is there but the pump isn't spinning you probably have a poor connection somewhere that is draining a load of current, leaving not enough amps to spin the pump up. If there isn't any voltage you have a broken connection somewhere and that means tracking back the wiring and checking the voltage at each stage to try and find the bad connection. We'll cover that if and when we get to it :)

Edit to say - don't continually spin the pump while it's not pumping anything, you can overheat it and burn it out.

The cars running!

I replaced both 30amp EFI fuses with new ones and it started!

Ive taken the car out for a 20 minute run and all seems fine, also tested it at WOT which was also fine.

The walbro sounds much quieter and smoother than the old pump.

Me & my dad have a theory, is this probable?

The old pump did sound ramdomly dodgy (loud & high pitched), so we think that the old pump siezed for a moment causing a big current draw and blowing the fuse.

Does this sound likely?

Where is the best place to get a walbro pump and are there different types? I'm creeping closer to BPU and need to change my stock Jspec pump. What is best model for a Jspec with stock tubbies running with a cat back and 2nd decat (1st decat planned along with boost controller eventually)? I'm planning for running at 1.0 bar for reliability BTW. Thanks.
