O2 sensor help

Recommended Posts

Hi, was having a discussion in gereral chat that has moved on to be a bit technical. I've got a Uk TT and I'm getting only 230 miles from a full tank. Others had said they are able to regularly get over 320. It has been suggested that the o2 sensor could be done and the engine is runing rich by default. Sound familliar? I read on an old thread that said you can test to see if it's working properly with a volt meter. I've not had a look to see if I can find where it even is as I didn't even think there was a problem until today. I'm I right in thinking there is a front and rear sensor?

Anyone know what I'm on about, and if so any chance of some help/suggestions. A walkthrough would be really good :)

cheers

On a UK Spec there are 2 oxygen sensors, if you remove the turbo heat shield you will see the first one below the turbos, the second is mounted on the second catalytic convertor.

These are the Toyota part numbers

89465-19605 Oxygen Sensor - Front - UK Spec

89465-19595 Oxygen Sensor - Rear - UK Spec

Pic of an oxygen sensor.

Thanks nic, your some man. Is there a way to tell if they are needing replaced? would it be the the one near the turbos that is likely to cause a problem as it's the one that I presume senses air comming in?

Might be expensive to replace if it's doing it's job and I can't tell :)

I thought about what you said a few weeks ago regarding bigger wheels. I scrubbed the brake dust off the stock 17's and they look pretty good. More to the point, I like te performace they give at the moment. As you pointed out, bigger wheels may only be an upgrade in looks. Besides, a friend of mine wrecked an alloy off his dads jag as there are so many pot holes on the roads after the bad winter. I'll hold off untill the urge returns and the roads are better.

Are u saying I should slice open a Lemmon and ram the tip in overnight? Sounds like a prank but it's the 2nd time I've heard it lol

i agree it would pay for it's self quite quickly, just not sure it's the reason I'm getting 230 miles and others are getting 340. Worth a try I suppose!

I searched lemon and found loads of info on this issue! Lol

Found out it's lemon juice (on it's own or with a mix of bicarbonate of soda) you soke them in.

Also seen nic replying to pretty much the same question from 2010. U must have the patience of a saint! Lol- sorry, untill I searched lemon not a lot came up.

Also people tend to say eBay sensors don't do a lot where as the Toyota parts make a noticeable difference.

It's now done 90k miles, so prob wouldn't hurt to replace them. I think I was wrong about one sensor reading the air intake temp, am I right in thinking one is before the cat and one after on the Uk TT? Lemon juice test may tell me if it's time to change them as I understand it's a temp fix.

Just hope Its straight forward to remove them- don't want to snap anything! :0
