SupraDan24
THIS IS A LONG RANT, IF YOU CANT BE ARSED TO READ IT, STOP NOW !! Its a very long and compleX story, so i wont go into all the details, but basically last year i called Insurance Choice brokers to see if they could get me a decent quote on my Evo. They managed to get me a cheaper quote than anywhere else so i went with them. The next day, i came across my insurance details with Adrian Flux that i had been insured with that year, and realised that my policy ran out on the 15th March, not 15th Feb, so i was 1 month shy of having my 3 years no claims. So i called Insurance Choice back up and spoke to the same guy and told him that i'd messed up. At first, we came to the conclusion that i should cancel the new policy, wait a month then take another one out with my full 3 years no claims, and i would just have to take the hit of the cancellation fee. I was more than happy to do this as it was MY mistake. Before we went ahead with it, he said to leave it and see if he could find anyone else who would count those 2 years 11months no claims as 3 years. A short while later, he called me back and said that Aviva had agreed to count it as 3 years no claims, and transferring my policy over to them would be free....and it was cheaper !! Obviously, i was chuffed, this guy had managed to not only save me from paying the cancellation fee, but had also gotten me a cheaper price. Anyway, to cut a long story short, i took the deal and was told. BY HIM that everything was sorted and i had didnt have to send them my proof of no-claims etc as they would get it directly from Adrian Flux. He then told me that i no longer needed my policy with Adrian Flux, and that i c should cancel it as everything was sorted on my new policy, so i ring Adrian Flux and cancel my policy running with them, 1 month before its due to end (at the time, i didnt think you were allowed to have two seperate policies out at the same time, i later found out that the rule was your not meant to have two seperate policies on the same vehicle, hence me being eager to cancel it.) This brings me to today, i get a phone call from Insurance Choice saying that my Insurance is due for renewal on the 15th Feb, great i say, now i can finally insure my Supra which is sat in the Garage. So we go through the motions, "Do you still have your current vehicle, your mini" (3 months ago i sold the Evo and bought the mini and transferred the insurance over). "Yes i still have it". "Okay, well Aviva has come back as £720 as for the renwal quote"...HOW MUCH !!! "720 with 4 years no claims, i dont think so love". "4 years no claims, it says here you only have 1 years no claims" Turns out, i never sent my proof of no claims to Aviva, something i was specifically told i didnt have to do, and now because i cancelled my policy with Adrian Flux before it finished, they're saying i only have 2 years, plus the one ive just earnt = 3 years no claims....instead of 4 years. Thankyou very much Insurance Choice, shove your £720 renewal up you arse. I now have 3 years no claims, even though i've paid, and driven 4 years. neo2810
Make it an official complaint (registered post), request all call recordings from last year (under the freedom of information act), and if they don't give you a satisfactory outcome, escalate the complaint to the FSA (via the FSO)... Insurance companies are heavily regulated and it's up to them to prove they did not tell you what you are claiming so usually the threat of a complaint into the FSA is enough to get you a fair result. Yeah, i'll give that a go mate. I've rung sky since, and got a quote with 3 years no claims, they're mirroring onto my Mini as well, so i have a price of £1040 for both the Supra and Mini fully comp with my Supra Mods declared. £650 for the Supra, i thought that was pretty good so i'll wait and see what Insurance Direct say and if they dont do anything in i'll go with Sky. Just to give you guys an idea of how Insurance Companies can be, i rang Adrian Flux earlier to get a quote, they quoted my £1640 for the Supra with Mods declared. I obviously said No Chance as i was getting quotes around the £700 region last year. The guy told me to hold the line while he "spoke to his manager" and came back and offered me the exact same policy, without any changes for £1070. So i basically saved £600 for doing nothing. Just goes to show you how much of a rip off insurances can be, if i wouldnt have said no to the first quote, they never would have offered me the lower one which was £600 less for NO reason. He didnt even give me a reason for the saving !!
Matt H
NCBs are bizzare IMO. Like one company can insure you for 10months and give you a year's NCB and that's accepted by a seperate company?
