heckler
Ok, Just heard back from CR via AFR that my turbo is, shall we say... "has now expired", Its currently a PHR T60-1 on a cast manifold producing 550Bhp - now I've been given a few options, Rebuild with journal bearing - £550 approx Rebuild with BB cartridge - £850 approx (basically T40Z parts) Buy a new turbo I'll be calling CR tommorow for more info... If I go for a new one, for roughly the same power output, what would I be looking at cost wise? Ideas on a postcard, (or in this thread which would be easier!) mwilkinson
Well a new PHR Stage 1 T60 turbo is $1150. This way you know it will fit and work with what you have already. Your cheapest option would be a rebuild by CR. Again the advantage is that the rebuild will be the only cost and it will just bolt straight back on. Thats probably what I would do for the moment. Unless your looking to update the manifold and turbo together.
Scott
Around £1200 for a modern DBB tubby from the states. I was looking at the new garrett turbos. Without DBB it is around $1200, with DBB it is around $1800. They look the bees knees btw, and you can always trust a genuine garrett IMO. johnny g
6765 not floating your boat?
Scott
6765 not floating your boat? Me or Si? lol If me, then yeah definitely. But for similar money I can get a Garrett which on paper is putting down VERY strong numbers. Will decide nearer the time when I have seen some real world figures and seen some graphs
JamieP
Are you wanting to stay at 550bhp? if so, billet 6262 would be my advice, go dbb if you can afford it.
Bailey.
as above dumop that turbo, go 6265, journal or bb will spool quickly and make your power goals and more.
johnny g
GTX35R would be an awesome street turbo too
Scott
GTX35R would be an awesome street turbo too Yup, that's the ones I was referring to. I think the GTX30R would cover what he is after though. If the numbers that these things are putting out are transferrable to the Supra. Wez
How come your turbo is goosed? Its the same tubby as mine and it has taken a pounding over the years, it was 2nd hand when I purchased it and Paul use to run it at 1.8bar If I was in the same situation I would be looking for another journal bearing unit to keep costs down, possibly a small BW unit which should give better spool, a little more power and more torque. Bailey.
I still wouldnt be happy forking out a shed load of cash which has not been around long enough to prove itself, such as the latest garrett units.

I dont know, l'll be giving CR a ring tommorow to see what they say... just got to think what other options are available.
heckler
Well, the 6262 is approx £550 plus shipping, or £892 plus shipping for the DBB version... Hmmm....
johnny g
If you can afford the DBB...
bignum
Tbh 550 seems a little expensive for a journal rebuild, phr are normally reliable , i`d go with a rebuild if you are happy with the performance.

Well worth going dbb from what i have seen, the billet journals dont seem to spool as well.
J_Supra_07
As above mate go for what you can afford. I was in the same boat few months back. I was luck that I had I nice Xmas bonus so I got a nice big turbo :-).
Bailey.
If you intend on keeping the turbo for a while it's worth the extra pennies for bb, with turbo technology moving leaps and bounds at the minute, I went with a journal, and am awaiting some good results and over time testing of the new bw turbos and the gtx units for an upgrade next year. Hang on, I haven't even fitted this one yet, lol
Ian C
Because of the speed and temperatures involved with turbos, and the ever tighter tolerances, a knock on effect of all this progress is that when they get damaged or go wrong, they are pretty much junked. £850 for a DBB unit sounds about right, you'll basically get a whole new core and wheels unit. DBB every time, why on earth wouldn't you
dude
The quote for £850 (CR's price) is for genuine Garrett DBB to turn it into a TO4Z They will use Si's housing with Garrett cartridge, same with the journal, how £525 is expensive for new cartridge with wheels fitted and balanced is beyond me.!!!!! dandan
I have the Precision T67DBB that I removed from my car and it is now a "spare". I have a 0.68 and a 0.81 housing for it. Let me know if you think it might be any use to you....
Nic
If you're wanting the same power I'd go Garrett GT35R or GTX30R
Chris Wilson
UK sourced Garrett with Ni Resist turbine housing. Something with full service and parts back up here in the UK. That's my take, even if you drop a few HP or a tad of spool, compared to the blurb on the US sourced ones. If in doubt pick the smaller one
