Is my Supra on it's way out?

Haven't started the car for a week, ran out of mot a week ago and just booked it in.

Started her up, started fine, idle around 1900.

Warmed up and got to about 1000..then the oil light (I assume it's oil, oil can with wavy line underneath)

Crapping myself, turned it off and checked oil.. There wasn't any there... Maybe 0.5litres!!

Now I did an oil change in september, filter as well, there is no leaks.. And about 5-6 litres of oil went in.

How can it go that quick?!

Very :( about this..

i would check that you put the oil filter on tight enough and top back up and keep a eye on it

The op says theres no leaks and if it was leaking the amount it has i'd have thought it would be very obvious. Well worth checking it again though but 5 litres would make a very big mess

Can only think of the 2 usual suspects turbo seals or valve stem seals, worth a compression check as well.

It would be smoking so heavily surely the OP would have noticed, i've done stem seals due to them being shot and mine never used more than half a litre in over 1000 miles and thats on a 120k miles engine.

Well, sorry for the lack of info!

Its an Auto NA, showing 160,129km but this has been reading in miles since I got it... probably since 140,000km its been incrementing in miles instead.

Smoke.. well thats what kinda got my suspicions up a while ago that I may having a problem, but the garage near me said "its probably just the big pipe you have on there"

Theres not alot of smoke, start up (i only every start driving at 6am, which is about 1 degree outside, it smokes a bit, but when you hit the throttle and move it disappears.

I havent refilled the oil, I literally turned off, checked oil and walked away and logged in here :p Bearing in mind... my "local" garage is a fair few miles and im currrently off sick...carrying alot of oil back could take a while lol

Oh and Scooter, nothing on the dipstick :(

Have you checked the oil since? The reason I ask is that it is normally good practice to wait 15-20 minutes so that the oil circulating round the engine can make its way back into the sump. If you check the oil straight after having the car running it will most likely look lower than it is.

IIRC the yellow light is low oil pressure, look towards pump, blockages and initial lack of oil

The red light is low oil leve, this only really comes on when you have feck all oil in there.

I would be critical of there not being any leaks. With my FMS gone it was taking a good 100 miles to get through 1L of oil, never mind 6 :D

i think the lights are the other way around yellow (warning) = low oil level...............red (danger/stop) = low oil pressure.

I would just check once settled as advised then you'll probably see something on the dipstick even if its below the minimum........then fill up as required.......then have a bloody good look around the engine, look down each side back and front from above and then in from the side from behind the front wheels (with a torch). If no sign of oil use as normal and check the oil every time you return to use the car (provided it's been standing for half an hour or so) and closely monitor the level.............can carry some oil with you.

Sweet. Sounds like they know their stuff. :(

So you dont know how much is needed to get it back on the dipstick ?

To clarify the above, do you know that the "low" mark on the dipstick doesn't correspond to an empty sump? It usually corresponds to a 2/3 - 3/4 full sump. The engine's oil capacity is roughly 6 litres as you said, but it only takes roughly 1 or 2 pints to take the level from dipstick low to dipstick high.

Engine oil should be checked with the engine at operating temperature, Toyota recommend leaving the oil to drain to the sump for a few minutes, not longer. I takes 1.5 litres to raise the level from LOW to FULL on the stick. I would suggest adding 1.5 litres then check level again, with oil at temperature. If you you order from Opie oils they will have oil to you next day, if getting oil is an issue. Toyota recommend checking oil with every new tank of fuel, so about 300 miles on a standard engine.
