Hi,

In relation to duct which looks like a snorkel- pictured in link below (17311-46010).

http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/attachment.php?attachmentid=76569&d=1212610104

Could someone please take a pictuire of where this mounts to & what it looks like installed under the bonnet?

The reason I ask is I have installed the EURO bonnet scroop on the JSPEC VVTI & whish to install this part to complete the cooling functionality of this OEM setup you guys have.

Thanks

Bumpy Whumpy,

Do you guys not have the hood scoop? I believe this snorkel was a std part for the hood scoop, which, I believe was designed for aditional cooling to help cool cylinders 3/4 for or high speed travel in autobahns etc.

If it's just the standard bonnet scoop, I've got one on my UK Spec. I'll get you a pic of the underside in a couple of hours :)

Edit: After looking at the pic, I don't have one of those snorkels. I'll get a pic under the bonnet at the underside of the scoop so you can see what's there from stock.

You are a simple soul Josh :D

Have a look at the link in the first post, the part that he is after is highlighted in black. It's the snorkel part that is attached to the rear drivers side of the engine :)

Josh the snorkel should meet the underside of the bonnet vent, blowing air onto the manifold/turbos as I said before. You haven't taken a picture of where it should be.

Oops :innocent:

I'll head back out.

Here's an engine bay picture that you may be able to tell if there's one or not. I've looked before and nothing would meet the underside of the bonnet vent. Or am I just being stupid? :p

Any idea how much it'd be from Toyota and whether I'd benefit much from it?

Thanks for help :)

Well Toyota saw fit to install it so there must be a requirement for extra cooling in that area in some conditions. I'd suggest you fit it as you're obviously using the car quite hard.

No idea on costs, but maybe contacting a breaker who has a UK spec would be a cheap option.

Cool, thanks :)

I've only had a few straight-line blasts in the car, other than that I drive it round at normal speeds/revs just because it's nice to drive.

I'll ask around for one, cheers.

It's not an expensive part new IIRC. The being single part will explain it, hopefully the heat shield is the original one and it will bolt right on for you.

Not really sure of what it actually does, it seems to cool the 5th/6th runner/2nd turbo area. Toyota didn't see fit to add it to the facelift models so I'm guessing it is something to do with the UK spec turbos, potentially cause excess heat? As Gaz says, I reckon it would be a worthwhile investment, even if just for peace of mind.

Thanks for all the input guys & for the Pics Josh! - seems that I am missing the underside (bit under the hood of the Scoop) & the snorkel. Snorkel looks quite functional near the turbos, if toyota thought it fit to mount one it is good enough for me to do this mod- the additional coling can only help since I am BPU, boosting up to 1.2bar. I need to work out how it mounts to the heatshield (I am guessing)- I have a Jspec heatshield so I wonder if this will be different or have area for mountaing bolts etc?

If anyone could get closeups of where snorkel mounts to that would be great.

Thanks Scott for the great pic,

Will advise if this fits & take a picture tommorow of my heatshild- you have now confirmed that the snorkel (aka Air Inlet Duct) definatly attaches to the heatshiled via 2 nuts. Looks like the cable bracket attaches to the snorkel too.

My damn camera isn't working at the moment.

I can confirm that the Jspec turbo heat shild is different. It is basically like the picture above but does not have the cut-out for the snorkel to fit or for the 2 bolts to mount, rather the metal edge continues in a straight line. Looks like it would be possible to cut away sections, but depending on the cost of the shield, it may be easier to source this too.
