Glass Headlights- Electronic Beam Adjustment

Just a quick quesition...

I have installed the glass headlights & wired a pot switch to controll height adjustment of the headlight, which is working fine (have a JSPEC VVTi RZ).

My question is what does the OEM button look like, that controlls beam adjustment, or is this function built into one of the stalks?

If anyone has part numbers or can take a picture for me that would be most helpfull. I have searched but can seem to find anywhere. I would rather use the OEM switch & retain stock look if possible.

Also how many height adjustment positions do you guys have? (I have 3 or 4 at the moment)

Thanks

Yes a picture of the swich, ffmacleod would be awsome! ( the pic didn't work). It seems that this switch is only on UK Supras, not EURO spec- Interesting.

Once I have a picture of what the little beast look like, I can them search for the part number...

Cheers,

ffmacleod- PM Sent!

With picture I should be able to get Toyota to locate part number in master parts catalogue. I have Jspec version, but need UK catalogue.

Good post by Jeff with wiring diagram & switch operation settings.

Iv just taken a look at jeffs helpful wiring diagram, I have no wiring harness or switch but adjusted my lights levels by connecting directly from battery (black and red wires) and using another negative jumper to each of the 4 Level positions until I found the one that was correct, and used the same pin on the other headlight so they're both at the same height, essential now ive fitted hids, and I believe if you have hids it's a requirement of the mot (not sure tho)

So it's easy as that red+ black- and jumper lead from - to whichever of the other 4 pins for the desired height

This is fantastic, ive been wanting to upgrade my car to hid but i wanted to do it as per next years mot rules and didn't realise supras ever came with auto leveling.

I've currently got HIDs, and I'd do anything to keep them. If this can be an easy-ish mod to do, then I'd be up for something too.

It's manual though, does a switch count as automatic?

Up until this point i didn't realise that supras came with electronic adjustable headlights but now i do i think it would be really easy to make them auto leveling by using an auto level switch from an rx8.

The auto leveling switch bolts to the floor of the car and is linked to one of the rear arms and that way when weight is added to the rear the headlights dip.

How much would this upgrade cost? I have UK spec lights with HIDs and although the MOT station says the beam is perfect I still blind people and take abuse for it. It would be nice to be able to lower as required.

I doubt it would be very expensive. The way I would do it would be to buy the switch, plug ends and pins and then make my own harness for it. It would probably be around £20 in parts and then an hour or 2 of time.

I can't see it being difficult at all but without actually doing it and seeing what gets in the way it's hard to tell :D

That's far too complicated for my liking. I don't think there will be any issues with the MOT though. Any new enforecements can only really be active from the day they have been put into place. It would be unfair to say that HIDs are illegal on cars that previously came with them that don't have auto levelling so the requirement has to be made to the manufacturers first. Whether or not this is the case is irrelevant as it certainly wasn't the case back in 1993 when the Supra was rolling off the production lines. HIDs were an optional extra for the Supra too so I'm pretty sure we are covered from a legal standpoint :)

I don't suppose you fancy doing it and writing a guide for the rest of us? ;)
