Tyldesley mate, looking at purchasing one in the next couple of weeks. Are they easy to overllock safely as I wouldnt want to push anything to far I want a stable system lol

The 5850 can go up with voltage overclocks and core/mem speed tweaks. You don't have to push them far to get a decent increase. But stick with 5850 speeds as it'll only means 5-10 fps increase in games.

Actually get a new 6850 - cheaper. This already OC'd one is a good buy

Drivers are not as advanced but will futureproof your system

Let me know if you need me to drive over on the way to Liverpool mate. Bacon sandwich in payment haha

Only thing is im swaying more towards a 2gb card purely as Im thinking it would be more future proof but am i wrong in thinking that? My budget is basically around 200, and whatever the best card is which is as current gen as possible I will go for. I dont really understand what im looking for when it comes to graphic card specs and there seems to be so many different variations of the models lol.

Baically if it runs crysis and games like in this video I would be chuffed:

I would avoid any 4XX or 5XX series cards simply because of their heat issues and poor drivers. I could be classed as an ATI fan boy though

2GB is only useful for resolutions above 1920x and maybe for Eyefinity (3+ screens)

If you want to run Crysis on a 22" screen, get a 1GB mem card and ideally an ATI one

Just advice mate ;)

That's not strictly true, is it? I thought they had set aside £700m for a recall but said it was not recalling mobos yet? This may have changed

You better believe it! As of yesterday, when I posted, all H67 and P67 chipset motherboards had been recalled. UK Distributors, despite having stock, pulled the lot at around 9.30am. UK Disti's are also trying to claw back stock that we and places such as OCUK have. OCUK are continuing to sell them as they believe most users are not bothered by the problem.

This I can believe lol. Scan seem to be too

I was just about to press "buy" on my 2.5k system with an ASUS Maximum IV and a Sandybirge i7-2600k - maybe wait a bit then :(

It seems distributors are now 'allowed' to sell what stock they have. This is great news for everyone all round. Personally, I cant see the problem with the fault anyway, just use the SATA 3.0 ports and non Intel ones. If you need extra SATA ports then a £15 SATA controller will solve the issue nicely. :)

Expect the new revisions come mid to late march, but before then stock will be very sparse.

I thought it was the 3gb ones that were affected not the 6gb?

Yup, SATA2 = 3gb, SATA3 = 6gb. Hence why he said use the SATA3's or the non intel ;)

Cudos to intel for pulling their product. Nice to see them actually stand by their quality morals.

Yes.

What's everyone worrying about then ;)

Just ordered my ati 2gb 6950 card should be picking it up from scan tomorow cant wait!!!

Enjoy mate. Make sure you get the latest drivers and read forums on which one is the best... Guru3d.com is a good site. Then keep up with changing drivers. On the download section from Guru3d.com there is always a little link to their forum, where first adoptors of drivers explain their findings

Probably the fact that they have just forked out a shed load of cash for a potentially faulty motherboard. I have 4 SATA HDDs and 1 SATA DVD-RW, I would be pretty pissed if I had to go and fork out for a card in order to connect them all without worry of them failing, regardless of how little the card costs.

I was being factious mate. I have read all the forums on the issue and was about to click "buy" on one. It seems that Intel are fessing up though and will RTM them...

I was being facetious too, hence the massive over reaction ;)

Yeah I have to give credit to intel. They do seem to stand by their morals better than most other companies. Was it NVidia that had that big hullaballo not so long ago? Puts it into perspective.

Phew, I thought I had upset you for some reason - maybe you had just bought one haha ;) ;)

Yeah I think a lot of people appreciate it. The OCUK forum has had the same debate running between "don't worry, use the other ports" and "bloody hell I have just spent £500 on a CPU and mobo" :)

I think I'll hold off

What is your setup Scott? New or oldish?

As far as PCs go it's old. I can't remember the exact spec off the top of my head but....

Asus P5K (Can't remember what variant lol)

Core2Duo E6850

4GB DDR2 PC2-6400

Radeon X850 XT

3 1TB SATA2 HDDs (F1 & F3 Spinpoint)

1 2TB SATA2 HDD (F2 Spinpoint)

1 500GB SATA2 HDD (Can't rememember)

I haven't used the PC for anything other than downloads and as a Mediacenter for a few years. It doesn't even have a monitor/keyboard/mouse attached, it sits in the cupboard off the livingroom hooked up to its own modem and wirelessly connected to my network. Total complete and utter overkill, I've never been a gamer.

Other than that I have my trusty Acer 6930 Laptop :)
