Chris Wilson
Thanks, just seen this, I have managed to repair Johnnies starter, plus I have got another one coming on Tuesday, so should be OK now, in that regard, cheers.

Chris Wilson
The sumps been off, which was a cross member off job, the strainer was clean, the pick up pipe secure and the gasket sound, but renewed as a matter of course. The oil has a rather worrying amount of silver in it which will be bearing material from wear from running no or low oil pressure. I have borrowed a starter of another car for now, and have a replacement coming next week. I am going to pull the oil pressure relief valve out of the pump tomorrow, if that is OK it's an engine out and strip job. Chris Wilson
You need an oil pressure sensor linked to the ecu to kill the engine if RPM > 2000 and OP
hodge
You need an oil pressure sensor linked to the ecu to kill the engine if RPM > 2000 and OP THis has been disgussed Chris and will be added at the next opotunity.
Chris Wilson
I'll update as and when, let's hope the relief valve is stuck. When you build the 2JZ there's a little trick that I have formulated to stop silicone getting up to the pump intake. There were clear signs of detachment and it will have gone to / through the pump, so fingers crossed.
Chris Wilson
It lives again. It has good blood pressure and a normal temperature. I would say it has now used about 8.999 recurring of its nine lives though

johnny g
Glad to hear that the problem wasn't terminal! Me too I'm going to drive the car back here, mull around for a couple of days then oil change, thicker than normal oil and hopefully then just use it whilst the I'm deciding on the forged route
johnny g
Got the car back, feels great. Oil pressure is ~0.5bar higher overall now than it was prior to the dyno. Didn't give it any "punishment", but a few half throttle trips to 4500rpm, and it's certainly a machine! Will enjoy it tomorrow and get the oil changed and see what it brings! johnny g
Awesome "G". Can you detail what chris found so everyone knows what the issue was please. I'll do my best, but Chris will probably do it much better So, after the dyno, we were out road-checking the car - and we noticed the oil pressure had gone - nothing was fixing it, so I had the car recovered to the venerable Mr Chris Wilson - who on inspection of the oil, found silver contamination (probably bearing), then looked at the release valve, which was jammed. A thorough clean brought the oil pressure back. The current thought is that it's the cams, with the poor castings used, and they're releasing some sand-like contamination - which jammed the release valve. Chris Wilson
I may post up a resume on the two issues (overheating and the oil pressure one), with John's car this weekend. Both were interesting problems that were not the usual routine things. May help others, so with John's permission?
johnny g
Full disclosure is fine by me! If it helps anyone else in the future, then I've zero objections
Gaz6002
However: disclosure of the horrors you found on that camera is not necessary.

johnny g
Well, a small update on this I took it over this morning to Hodge's for a nice run out of about 175 miles. It's first real run since I got it back from Chris! All good! There are some mapping issues that we never had a chance to complete on the dyno day - but I've emailed Ryan about them and we'll sort that. But, on boost. Wow. I was tootling along at about 78-80 leptons on the M62, nice, dry. E46 M3, roof down was right up my chuff - so when the traffic clears, I indicate to mvoe over, downshift and wait for him. He guns it. I do like wise....... and where did he go!? Waaaaaay back. And, about 50-60 miles further on, between Leeds and the M1 north - there was ANOTHER M3. Just threw him by the way-side! Journey home was just pleasant, too much rain to do too much
