hogmaw
Bypassed the AEM this morning to see if it was the cause of a misfire, and went off to work. So far so good, no probs and all smooth and normal for my BPU Jspec auto. Then 20 mins later, give a bit of power, not a WOT but just opening up a bit , get to 4500rpm and turbo 2 gets going, reaching about 110 leptons and there's a loud BANG from the engine and the red triangle light comes on the dash. Power gets cut (that might be me coming off the throttle) and then all is back to normal. Boost guage reads 1.21 bar peak. I do the same again later, but this time all is ok, do it again and ok.... On the way home, a carbon copy of the above. Same bang, same rpm, same boost pressure, happened only the once... Any ideas people???? g. robin
Boost/fuel cut maybe?
bobapple
I used to have the fuel cut come in before my rebuild don't think it ever gave me the red triangle could be wired different I suppose, but the fuel cut does do what you said, it almost feels like you hit a brick wall but keep moving. monsween
My guess is fuel cut.
heckler
Sounds like boost/fuel cut to me.
robin
The couple of times I've had it is at or just after the transition point when turbo 2 comes in. It's only ever occurred on part throttle , there is a noticeable thud/bang and the triangle flashes up for a second or so before turning off. Must be the colder air. mustang
I've had the same thing but around 120 leptons just a 2nd tubby comes in. Did some research and thought it may be a faulty MAP sensor, thinking its over boosting when its not. It never really bothered me so only got another swapped in during the summer but due to other problems I've never tested it, its an easy swap so may be worth a try. hogmaw
Yes just after I posted I thought fuel cut cos the Thor had been unplugged following the AEM install Phew nothing bad then, but what was the bang all about?
Scott
Definitely sounds like fuel cut. Is it possible that you don't have a fuel cut defencer? I don't think you would need one with the AEM. Edit: you got in before me
Ian C
Phew nothing bad then, but what was the bang all about? I've experienced fuel cut and there is a nasty bang, it's probably part driveline noise as you go from 400bhp to -40bhp in driveline losses, and part mental amplification as you cack yourself thinking the car has exploded
Matt H
5 years ago, when I had a FC problem, I experianced no bang, just a lack of cut of power then back on to power.
