JustGav
Well Mel has got a barge at the moment (BMW 520), after she thought she wanted something a little more grown up after getting a little fed up of minor issues on her Mk3 golf. Thankfully she still has the mk3, so I've suggested she gets shot of the BMW, and puts the mk3 back on the road. It is a cracking little car (Graham S used to own it), so it has had plenty of love and care over the years, but now she wants to get back into a bit of fun Body wise it is fine, the engine is still nice and strong, I've got a bonus coming from work so I'm going to treat the car to a makeover for her. I used to have a mk1 cti years ago (was my first car), so not completely out of loop VW-wise, and also having spoken to Mig the VR6 engine isn't the way forward. So this brings me onto my thinking of.... Getting an 8v engine from ebay, stripping it and rebuilding it, cast manifold and small DBB turbo. ECU wise I've got something already so that isn't a major issue, neither is sensors or that sort of thing. OR would I be better off getting a 1.8T lump and transplanting that, but I believe you need, clocks barrels and all that sort of thing, which while I don't mind relooming the car, I don't want to have it off the road for too long or over complicate it OR do I go mk3 16v...blah blah The car is a daily and the school runner, so T78 tubbies are out of the question Any thoughts? johnny g
What about one of the VAG 1.8T 225bhp lumps, if there's the room? You can use a stock ECU then, with some resistors in place to fool OBD2

The mk3 looks fairly roomy actually, and it is an Mreg jobbie, so electronics are fairly simple. *off to look into the 1.8T lumps more*

johnny g
Or the newer 3.2 V6 with 240bhp, as found in the S3/R32, etc

johnny g
I remember you telling about them a while back It'd certainly do without the OBD2 crap with the modern VAG ECU's buddy.
JustGav
Now that isn't too bad I don't think (or am I jaded by the price of toyota bits ) http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-1-8T-AUM-Engine-Box-complete-55k-Miles-/170597105823?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item27b861409f#ht_500wt_1156
johnny g
Nice 5 valve head too. That'd make it a sprightly car. And you'd get a fair amount of power from it with a nice increase in boost
