Guest jaredb-123 Posted January 30, 2011 Share Posted January 30, 2011 Hi lads i just have a quick question in regards to upgrading a 2j vvti ignition system , i get spark blow out at 18psi and im running a .6ml gaps on the plugs . Aftermarket ECU / Link G4 extreme (plug and play) Will a HKS DLI 2 work with wasted spark set up ? What other options do i have ? Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The VVTi is wasted spark though and I am unsure if many CDI units are comaptible, my experience of CDI is with Motec and coil on plug direct fire sequential ignition set ups. Guest jaredb-123 Posted February 1, 2011 Share Posted February 1, 2011 Sure dose , will run Cdi , so my question is then can just change the ignitor or add a hks dli to it run the 3 coil packs to get a greater spark , my mate used a rb20 ignitor changed the dwel with standard coil packs . Lee P Posted February 1, 2011 Share Posted February 1, 2011 (edited) The standard setup should handle more than that, you may have a weak point in the system. Have a look at that first before trying to add things. You can fit the HKS dli to it no problem though, HKS make a harness that plugs straight in. Guest jaredb-123 Posted February 1, 2011 Share Posted February 1, 2011 Yes the ECU is capable of doing direct fire , your right about checking the system before i start adding extras on . I did find this thread on the us forums about how strong the wasted spark set is . I run my Skyline RB26 on an M800, but junked the unreilable igniter for two Bosch 3 channel ones and the system went from flakey to totally reliable. Guest jaredb-123 Posted February 12, 2011 Share Posted February 12, 2011 (edited) Had it retuned , the vvti was not even turned on , we copyed a map from a power fc 1j and tweaked it of course so the vvti settings where spot on , air fuel mixtures where ritch so timming and fuel where trimmed. We increased the limmiter to 7200rpm and no valve float , dwell timming was taking out whiched improved it appose to putting more in. The car spools so much faster the power has greatly improved through mid range and top end. OLD tune 449 @ wheels on 21 psi New tune 501 @ wheels on 21 psi The guy that had tuned it before told me i was needed to change my ignition , do a head and that i he cant get anmore power out of my car for these reasons yet the new guy i took it to told me my car is in tip top condition , think was the case of taking it to some one who knows what there doing and speaks the truth .
