neo2810
Errr... Can anyone tell me if this metal strip is important? (earth strip?). If so I'll spray it black separately with metal paint, otherwise I'll bin it.

neo2810
How did you get them undone? Oven? H. No Paul, I used a heat gun... It's a bit tricky cause you have to heat and pull, heat and pull, heat and pull. Putting them back together was easier though... And the heat gun came in handy to speed up the paint drying process, although I only realised on coat number
neo2810
One thing I did find challenging is not damaging the outer plastic lip when wedging a screwdriver into it to prise the lense off. I made a bit of a mess which I had to heat and smooth out when putting back together. Any tips on not damaging the lip?
Scott
Don't use a screwdriver Once they are at the correct temperature they pull away very easily, I use gloves and just prise them apart with my fingers. I always use an oven though, using a heatgun would be a PITA.

Any chance you could update your guide to 100C for 10-15 mins rather than having the 200C in there. Quite a few members have wrecked their headlights following your guide, I did point it out in the thread but most people tend to read the guide and not a lot after it. neo2810
Yeah, I do think oven would have been easier. I didn't strip off the old sealant, I just warmed it up and shoved the bits together, then added a second seal of black silicone. I'm pretty sure it's secure but time will tell. Of all the times I did them I think I used extra sealant once. The original stuff is very plyable when warm so I tended to just remove the lens and, while the casing was still warm, spread the gum as evenly as I could for putting them back. The one occasion I didn't have a choice was where a previous owner had had a go at it and totally ruined the lights lol.
