Fuel pump hanger, where does the pipe go???

Hi guys

Just curious really.

I was doing some work on Johnny.G's fuel pump hanger last night where the 3rd small pipe goes as when fitted it seems to disappear down towards the rear drivers wheel.

Now the pump hanger has a feed (banjo bolt), push on return (larger of the 2 pipes) and then this small one.

The tank breather from the charcol canister attaches to the top of the tank and not the hanger so I'm a bit stumped really.

Aftermarket hangers also have this extra pipe but the only difference is the stock hanger has a metal pipe leading down inside the tank from this but aftermarket hangers don't it seems to just be a vent hole of sum sort.

Can anyone shed any light on this for me please.

Thanks

John

It balances pressure in the filler neck and tank, I am told, so opening the filler cap with any fuel pressure in a full tank shouldn't vent fuel over the person opening it. It doesn't really matter if it goes above or below the fuel level in the tank, BELOW may give more protection, I am trying to visualise the levels involved....
