So first round done then. Initial response. England have some work to do, Ireland didn't inspire as much as I'd hope they would, and Scotland surprised me in their strength against the French. Its all very much in the air now. France is always going to be the bench mark as much as England think they are which is often their undoing because everyone wants to beat them so badly. Ireland will have to man up if they want to stand a chance. Wales will definitely improve across the tournament so they are proper in with a shout. Personally I think that Ireland are my faves if they pull good form. The jocks still don't look like they can field a tournament winning side. FWIW I think the italian side is the most impressive for outright improvement.

How many balls are you going to be playing with that day? :innocent:

lol.

I noticed yesterday before the England game that when discussing the 'wrong ball' incident in the Ireland/Wales game, they've come up with a new word for cheating - 'Gamesmanship'. Apparently it's when you try something you know is against the rules, but if you can get away with it, it's ok.

Glad I've got that clear then.

TBH, if the French play to their potential it isn't the balls we have to worry about. We will probably need extra players :D

And this from an Irish fan? The team who has taken forward play "gamesmanship" to a new level over the years. :)

In all seriousness, I wonder if it was a deliberate attempt at cheating or if it was just a case of not even thinking about it but taking a quick throw in?

Anybody who has played sport to a reasonable level will know how involved and focussed you can get and rugby players (forwards especially) are not known for their quick thinking (says he who played upfront :) ) and so maybe it was just a spur of the moment thing.

Don't get me wrong, it should not have been allowed but there again, how many other instances of "gamesmanship" will we see in a game that go unpunished?

What I don't understand is that they went to the camera footage and still allowed that try even though it was blatantly obvious that they had bent the rules with that cheeky quick line-out! Ireland then went and lost themselves the match with 2 seconds to go by not using the extra man they had on the left that they'd spent so much effort developing :(

I dont think they did though Bry - go to the cameras that is.

I heard the Brian O'Driscol interview afterwards and he said that given ll the technology available they still didn't use it and the Ref relied on the advice of the touch judge - whose family are obviously Welsh :D

Dead right on the try thing though. I guess he must have thought that he would try to make the conversion easier - "BIG" mistake IMO.

Thats exactly what I thought he was doing but matey on the left had enough room to toe it around behind the potential tacklers most of the way to the middle especially had the failed tryster pulled in the tackle as he passed the ball off.
