patrikbrunt
I currently have my Jap Spec front brake calipers in bits, and am carrying out a refurb on them. However the refurb kit has bits missing; there is only one sliding pin seal in each kit yet there are 4 pins. The supplier has said they are checking stocks of the seal ready to send me a replacement but to be aware that the 2 seals are slightly different. Does anybody know if this is correct, and if so, how do you know which one goes on which pin, and then if it matters which orientation the pin goes back in (i.e top or bottom of caliper carrier). Picture sent to me by the supplier: Thanks, Patrick.

straightsix
Maybe email Chris Wilson - I'm sure he's stripped plenty of brakes!
Rob
Yes the two rubber rings are different, and you have type A on the upper pin, type B on the lower pin. I had to buy them separately when I last refurbed as they are not included with the kit for some reason. The thicker one with more notches in goes in the lower pin, from reading the Brakes system PDF from the maintenanace manual.
Chris Wilson
They are just anti rattle dampers, if you leave them out you probably won't notice any difference, and the sliders are less likely to seize again. Otherwise you have to buy them from Toyota. How do the dust boots fit? When trying to source none genuine ones I tried the Budweg kit and they didn't fit well at all. Both slider pins are the same part number. Originally the wider rubber with the outer grooves went at the bottom. Quite WHY they differ I don't know, but I see them mixed up and it makes no odds. jackso11
if a sliding pin has been put in with no grease and has gone rusty, once the pin is out how do you recommend cleaning the hole it is seated in to make sure it doesn't jam in again?
