I know you guys have probably already discussed this but its hard work looking through old threads - I'm just lazy I suppose! Anyway, soon I will be getting into my soop and was wondering if people had had their cars remapped to run on optimax or left it stock and run optimax wihtout any problems? I will use optimax and probably also nf octance booster as I did the MR2 Turbo but as the engine is 1 litre bigger and an extra blower I just want to make sure that I am not sending the engine to an early grave.

:respekt:

Should be fine...all the others are. Just make sure your ECU is stock and doesn't have any badges saying MINES or TOM'S on it...as they will be modified Stock ECU's. If you have one of them it still shouldn't be a problem (mine wasnt) but you might want to check it on a dyno (to get the AFR's checked).

Octane boosters are a waste of money. Unless you are using something like a 10% mix of toluene (do a search on it) per tank. (that's 7Litres of Tol per tank not one pissy bottle ;) )

Normally, I would be "too lazy" to bother responding but seeing as it is sunny, I am feeling more benevolent than normal.

OK, I am assuming that you have a standard ecu so therefore you cannot remap it. I would also point out that putting any octane booster in is a complete waste of time as the "point" increase they state are just that 0.1 of a rating - chocolate fireguard springs to mind. :p

Your best bet is to run Optimax (or the Tesco 99 ron if it is available to you) and let the ecu learn itself.

Last bit of advice - if you are going to be lazy and cant be asked to do a search, then keep that to yourself as you will find others will be just as lazy and wont respond.

Thanks, but I should have expanded on the lazy part. I did do a search and a load of stuff came back. After browsing for a while and not really finding a complete answer I thought I would start from scratch - sorry for cheesing any of you off, but I am new!! lol

So many people say that octance boosters are not good and I have heard others say the opposite. I have been using NF black which is supposed to raise by 6 ron. I know the ECu is going to be standard so I shall just run on optimax, wasnt aware that tesco had a 99 out - any good?

Alot of you guys on this forum seem to think octane booster is Sh1t, and its starting to get me worried. I live in ireland where you can only get 95ron pertol, and im collecting my TT supra tomorow.....

What the F**k am i goin to run it on???

On a different note, at a recent dyno test, iv seen an intega type-r run 206bhp, then awhile later with some octane booster and it ran 210bhp, suely theres some good in it. Iv heard good things about millers booster which i was thinkin of tryin out. Unless anyone has a better idea?

I used octane booster, nf black which is supposed to raise by 6 ron to a certain amount of litres. Personally I noticed on my modified mr2 turbo that it made a difference than just optimax.

One concern is what I read elsewhere in the forum is that optimax could be as low as 95 ron which is why its not shown on the pump its rating. Anyone here from shell???

I've written to shell asking them the question as I'm baffled now. Will let you know of my findings

I have had a response from shell so now I know for defo - the only problem is that the shell garages I have been too dont show the BS no's either! Heres shells reponse:

Dear Mr Jones,

Thank you for your email which has been passed to me for response. The Octane rating for Shell Optimax is 98. Shell Optimax is a highly refined unleaded petrol which has some of the heavier constituents of standard petrol removed. This means that it burns more cleanly in your engine and actually helps dissolve the carbonaceous deposits left in the inlet valves and washes them, with the fuel, into the combustion chamber where they are burned and removed.

Regarding the octane rating which is not stated on the pumps, there is no legal requirement, however the British standards are displayed on the pumps. BSEN228 is for premium unleaded at 95 Octane and BS7800 is for Super unleaded at 97 Octane and above.

Kind Regards

Christina
