BentleyGreySoop
Hello All Ok Ok Some will say am mad. Some will say that insurance dont like it. But I say, I hate carrying jingly keys. Have been wanting to get a keyless ignition system. Already got Clifford alarm and intellistart but am looking for a system without a key. Especially as in America Clifford have the option for an Iphone Clifford Fob app. Which if you have a keyless ignition all youd need is your iphone to open your car. Now added to that my ignition barrle has just failed its a good time to put in a few toggle switches and a start button to replace the need for the key. But my problem is what do i need to do this i.e switches with correct ampage and relays and a wiring diagram. So could someone please offer me thier advice Cheers. bradleyh_15
Is it not illegal not to have the key in said barrel even with a push start or so on and so forth?!
BentleyGreySoop
I dunno is it? Some of the more modern keyless starts have them credit card rf transmitters and not a key??
Scott
You are going to have real trouble doing this and keeping the insurance company happy. For a start you will need to disable your steering lock, big big no no. Modern cars have the technology to implement all the security automatically, the Supra doesn't and it will take a LOT of work to change that. Think that's why they getaway with it as you have to have that in the car! Where as if you just got rid of the barrel and just have the inteli start on the Clifford or just push button it's a no no! Could have changed though as it was a while back I saw it! I'll try searching for it again and let you know my findings!
BentleyGreySoop
but if i sorted the steering lock and made it work with the or something then id be ok? P.S I do have a finger print scanner immobiliser lying around that am tempted to put in as a start button? After all an immobiliser in its basic term is a switch isnt it? Give the insurance a ring and see what they say. If they will still insure your car without a steering lock and with a live ignition then I say go for it Keyless entry is fairly easy to sort out, not sure on the rest... can't see it being that hard. The complication comes from making it secure.

Scott
Ok so STILL not rung the insurance company yet to check on this but has anyone done a full switch kit conversion? and a anyone kno9w where i can find the wiring diagram I'd need? No idea where the diagram will be but there are 5 wires going into the ignition. I'm just guessing here but I think 2 will be ground, 1 will be radio ignition + 1 will be ignition live and the other will be ignition start. The reason for 2 grounds is one will be for the ignition lives (both radio and ignition) and the other will be for ignition start. Purely a guess, but it should really be that easy. 1 switch for radio live, 1 switch for ignition live and 1 switch for start. The start button will need to be momentary though, the other 2 will need to be permenant. There is a post referring to the honda start button installation, that will let you know which wires are for the ignition start so you only need to find out the other
