hmoreta
Hi guys, As mentioned in the title, got caught speeding (dual carriage way) Speed limit: 50 mph (caught doing 63mph). White car with a camera on a tripod, absolutelly difficult to see it to be honest. He was just after the 50mph speed sign (I was arriving to Bournemouth) Got the letter from the police and I marked the first option (fix penalty)...want to avoid court, dont want to waste time and it was my fault. Does anyone knows the penalty for this offence? 3 points? 6 points? 9 points? banned? I have 3 years british driving license, no points at all since new...first time I have issues after nearly 14 years driving Thanks
Mike_Mac
You won't get a ban for that. I'd be surprised if it is anything but 3 points and the standard fine TBH.
Guigsy
Yeah I think that's 3 points. Won't change your insurance ether. Insurance companies expect everyone to have at least 3 points these days. So easy to be caught out. You still need to tell them next time you renew though. When I got 3 and called sky to check they just said to let them know when it was renew time but wouldn't change the price much if at all

BazzaAlpine
They seem to like being just after the speed change signs. First points I got were from some copper that lept out from behind some bushes and got me as I was in the prosses of slowing down. Don't get me wrong, it was my fault not slowing down before the sign but it still annoys me that the sod was blantantly concealing himself and then has the cheek to turn round to me and say 'Don't worry. Think of the times you got away with it.' I was in a family Volvo (still maried at the time) not some chaved up Corsa and I always stuck to the 10% rule. Back on topic: 3 points, £60 and a laugh from the insurance people when you tell them but that will be about it.
KamaSupra
I can picture the stretch of road in Bournemouth you were caught Most people speed down there, only slowing down for the fixed speed cameras. But don't worry mate, like people have said, it should only be 3 points that you get. It's sh!t but thankfully not a ban
supraturbochris
3 points mate, maximum

TopgunTT
I am surprised they didn't offer you a course to attend to avoid the points and just get the £60 fine? Being a first time offender? Maybe it is the area you are in?

Normal place for them is just at the far end of the flyover where drivers often confuse them with traffic joining from the slip road though. That and about 100yds short of the fixed camera up the hill.
Jord
Sounds like 3 points and a fine. Like others have said, you shouldn't have to worry about insurance. My mum got a similar offense and on her renewal it barely went up as they said due the amount of time she'd been driving the odds are you'll eventually get something. Westy
As stated 3pts £60 fine. In a 50mph you would have to be 70mph or above for anything more such as the charge being put up to a section 2 (dangerous driving)/increased pts and fine!
