garetheves
Has anyone heard anything about the brand Principia, in particular the Ellipse model. Had a quick google but limited info out there. Thinking of buying a decent road bike for commuting to work on and been offered one of these second hand. Looks good, light as a feather, exceptionally well looked after, only my problem is it's a frame size below what I would have gone for. That said, with the seat up the height is fine. If it's a good bike I might go for it as to me it's a bit of a bargain but just never heard of the make before.
AndyT
Some good input and links Seems they are very well regarded with particular attention and praise heaped on the 2004 / 5 frames. Apparently that's the last year they were made in Denmark. Seen one for sale $2100.

Neil-NA
I'm not much of a roadie tbh but the brand is quite well known and a decent one at that, however as its not the right size then I wouldn't bother, yes you can alter it to fit you but it won't be right, its likely going to put your body at wrong angles and potentialy cause injury. I see far too many peopl suffering on the wrong size bikes, its uncomfortable and takes the fun out of it. If you were to buy and just sell on to make some cash then if its cheap enough then do it. Sorry for the short reply as I'm on my phone.
colsoop
Hi Gaz How do you know its the wrong size I ride a couple of road bikes and the geometries of both frames are different. One is a medium and the other is a compact small frame. They tend to differ depending on manafacturer and the bikes purpose. Im not up on that brand so can't really comment on that but they seem well regarded and they look like well built frames. Do you have any more info on the groupset that the bike is built up with? If your purpose of riding is only for commuting then i would Personally be looking at getting a hybrid type bike. Something that i can whack a set of mudguards and a rack on to for my kit with plenty of space for larger tyres as and when i need them. Sorry for the short reply as I'm on my phone. Yeah this was my concern re. the size and im planning on taking it out for a "spin" in the next week or so to see if i lean to far forward or low. My plan B is, as youve put above, to maybe buy it anyway and sell on for a little bit extra but need to do more research into 2nd hand prices first ideally id like to buy it for me. Out of interest, what size frame would you suggest for a 6` 3" bloke? Hi Gaz How do you know its the wrong size I ride a couple of road bikes and the geometries of both frames are different. One is a medium and the other is a compact small frame. They tend to differ depending on manafacturer and the bikes purpose. The only reason i know its the wrong size is the guy im buying it off is a good 3-4" shorter than i am. When i measured myself on it though (ie sat on seat with foot on the pedal) my knee was slightly bent as it should be. If your purpose of riding is only for commuting then i would Personally be looking at getting a hybrid type bike. Something that i can whack a set of mudguards and a rack on to for my kit with plenty of space for larger tyres as and when i need them. This was the original plan, that way i would have something that was suitable for say canal bank cycling as well, however when this was offered to me for the same price as a half decent hybrid i was a little tempted. For the money im sure i would get more bike buying this. Cheers for the advice so far
colsoop
The road bike will probably be the better bike but as i said it is a compromise and does only one thing well - go fast on the road. If your happy with that comrpomise then go for it, i cycle to the gym with one of my bikes and just carry a backpack without any issues, just when it rains i get a wet arse
