Homer
Perhaps someone can clear this up: I've seen several posts where people have mentioned that even when the stock traction control is turned off, the ECU still takes some action to reduce power when slip is detected. Is that correct? Also does this have anything to do with disabling the trac ecu that is mentioned so often? I've really tried to search on this but for some reason can't seem to find a post that directly answers this
ewizzy
Cant say Ive ever noticed the ecu helping me out when Ive turn trac off, I can go right sideways with it off, when its on, its just a kill joy HTH Alex
hadyn
its totally off when the TRAC fuse is pulled
SimonB
On autos, the ECU uses the trac control butterfly to help smooth out gear changes even when the trac is turned off. Other than that it doesn't do anything when switched off. If you disable it permenantly (by removing the fuse or the whole trac control ECU) you will apparently have not quite so smooth gearchanges on the auto. On a manual it makes no difference, so disable it and lob it in the bin...
LeeT
just read this on supraforums http://supraforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=292399
Homer
Thanks for the replies guys, Its a 6 speed though. Leett, I had a read of the thread but unless I'm being totally thick (quite likely) it didn't answer the question. Some people posted it does retard the timing (as I've heard elsewhere), other said it doesn't matter. I have a Jap car too so the 155mph limit shouldn't come into play (Maybe the Trac system is different between UK and Jap cars to?). Still in the dark! Any ideas welcome!
