Scott
As above really. I'm thinking about a new radiator and I was wondering, as the Auto TT fatty's are all that are stocked now, if the gearbox oil cooler on the radiator would be decent enough as an engine oil cooler? Through reading various opinions it would appear that if not tracking the car I shouldn't really need an oil cooler. If I was on a track with it, it would only be for a bit of fun so I wouldn't be pedal to the metal. In this instance, would it be up to the job? Matt H
I don't know why you would consider this when Oil Coolers are not expensive to start with and are obviously more than up for the job?

If I'm getting a new radiator anyway I might as well use it to its potential.
TrickTT
I doubt the flow rate through the autobox gear oil cooler would be sufficient to use it as an engine oil cooler. The pipes are only about 10mm diameter.

Tricky-Ricky
Have a look here, it will give you the comparison sizes. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AN_thread
Scott
Have a look here, it will give you the comparison sizes. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AN_thread Hmm, fair bit bigger then. The thing is, I was thinking about not running a cooler at all. It's really just an afterthought as I am thinking about a new rad. What I don't want is to cause a restriction in the oil system. I presume that is exactly what the auto cooler would do?
Tricky-Ricky
Better no cooler than a restrictive one.
Scott
Yup, that's that out then
Chris Wilson
Yup, that's that out then Most definitely not possible but they make a great PAS cooler.

Nice to have for the odd spirited drive or overkill?
Chris Wilson
Somewhere like Llandow or a drift circuit can easily overheat or even boil the PAS fluid, so ideal for that sort of thing. Possible overkill on the road, but a "nice" upgrade if you have the time and inclination I suppose. The coolant temp will keep sensible heat in the fluid, and still keep it from getting mad hot
