SupraDan24
I own an Aspire Aspire 5920 at the moment, ive had it for about a year and a half. It's done me well in this time, but now the battery is failing and so is the charger, so i fancy a nice new fresh laptop. I'm now thinking of getting a gamer laptop so i can pass the time offshore with some decent PC games, instead of just watching movies at night ( i do actually do work !!) Has anyone got a gaming Laptop they're impressed with and can reccommend, or know of any good deals? I'm looking to spend up to about £800, dont really want to go above that, i'm not that hardcore lol. Plus i have consoles at home. Scott
You aren't going to get a proper gaming laptop without spending absolute megabucks. You will, however, get a laptop that will play most games etc reasonably well for that budget. Go with whatever takes your fancy but I would recommend at least: Intel i5 processor (I don't think the budget will stretch to i7) 4GB DDR3 Ram (As fast as possible, pay attention to the mhz) 512mb Dedicated GFX card (Stay away from shared GFX RAM) A nice addition would be a solid state HDD. That would maybe be something you would need to add yourself.

Yeah, i'm not going for an outright hardcore gaming laptop as it would be a bit wasted at homes due to consoles etc, but something that has a decent Graphics card/processor and can play most modern games at a reasonable frame rate. I'm staying clear of shared GFX already lol.

Scott
Something like this Scott Edit: Just noticed its not got the i7 processor for some reason That's a core2duo, basically the previous gen technology. the intel i processors are where it's at just now. http://www.comet.co.uk/p/Laptops/buy-HP-DV6-3180EA-Laptop/676535#fulldetails That is a bit of a bargain if I am honest. DamanC
MSI GX660R-474UK Granted its not a sandy bridge chipset, its still great value for money - 2 Years RTB Warranty too. Your best hanging on a month until manufacturers get their H67 and P67 chipsets into the new models.

Jord
I just had a quick look around and I'm finding it hard to beat Scott's link. I don't usually rate Comet/PC World etc but that's a great deal.

I don't usually rate Comet/PC World etc but that's a great deal. Shame on you to have comet and PC world in the same sentence I find comet OK on electrical purchases, generally not PCs or laptops though. I just checked there from a high to low pecking order and couldn't believe that laptop was in there for that money. I'm almost positive that laptop was over 1k last year. The thing is, it is going to be last years model. However, having looked at the spec it will blow any modern £800 laptop out of the water IMO. Brett 1
I have a Toshiba Satellite A660-11M (http://www.dixons.co.uk/gbuk/toshiba-satellite-a660-11m-refurbished-laptop-06219141-pdt.html?srcid=198&gclid=CI2f-qHoyKYCFQEOfAodrm70Mw) Its an amazing laptop, and can run anything I have tried. High spec and within your price range (about £750 new)

Septic
Does it have to be a laptop Dan? Unless you're carrying it around a lot, a gaming PC is a much better option and a lot more future proof.

I've got a PS3 and an 360 so i dont really need a gaming tower ontop (as much as i would love one )
Septic
Ah yea I forgot about your work. I don't really know much about laptops I'm afraid. Btw, DO NOT get World of Warcraft! Evil game!!
SupraDan24
Lol me either, i'm better with Towers tbh. Don't get me wrong, i'd much rather have a tower, and i know they're better for so many different reasons, but its for using offshore so needs must. DamanC
Just found the spec of the HP DV6-3180EA - Its got a ATI 5650 in it. Not the greatest card but should run most tiles at medium settings at low resolutions (1024 x 768); http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/video_lookup.php?cpu=Mobility+Radeon+HD+5650 They can be had a little cheaper: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HP-Pavilion-DV6-3180EA-%28XE040EA%29-500GB-4GB-15.6%22-_W0QQitemZ330520893799QQcmdZViewItem?rvr_id=200692567446&rvr_id=200692567446&cguid=1da2c1421290a0aad2961da6ffdb9736 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HP-DV6-3180EA-15.6%22-Core-i7-Laptop-%282.8-GHz,-4GB,500GB%29_W0QQitemZ150541566137QQcmdZViewItem?rvr_id=200712623438&rvr_id=200712623438&cguid=1da2c1421290a0aad2961da6ffdb9736 http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00440D928/ref=asc_df_B00440D9281813307?smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&tag=googlecouk06-21&linkCode=asn&creative=22206&creativeASIN=B00440D928 http://www.laskys.com/computing/laptops_and_pdas/laptops/hp_dv6_3180ea.html?cm_mmc=Froogle-_-Feed-_-Laptops-_-676535&_%24ja=tsid:5824|cc:|prd:676535|cat:Computing+%2F+Laptops+And+Pdas+%2F+Laptops+%2F+ Just so you know im not recommending it, the video card is a big let down and imo wont offer a decent enough gaming experience. Haha in my eyes all high street electronics stores are the same, they're all a giant rip off. They're not bad really for electronics, even though you can usually find them online somewhere much cheaper. I'd never consider getting a PC from them though, not when you can build one so much better for the same money. Most of the laptops that are high end are over a grand though. SupraDan24
How about this one. Very good performance from what ive read, suffers from heat issues though, and batter life isnt the best.
