JustGav
Belt tensioner?
leelbuk
Yup, part of the tensioner assembly for a manual supra. My Supra was converted from an auto and I still have the solid tensioner thingymabob and have been wondering if I should change it to the one you have circled. That was my guess, picture was a little small. Basically since the auto has the TC it has a slightly softer change, the additional damper is there to absorb the shock of harder gear changes. BazzaAlpine
Ah right, thanks It was confusing the hell out of me. Seeing as the engine is going into an automatic should it be removed or may as well just leave as is?

I haven't particularly punished mine since going 6 speed but am now a tad worried about mine. Ah right, thanks It was confusing the hell out of me. If Gav is right then I would have thought it wouldn't matter too much as softening the changes would probably help whether auto or not.
Chris Wilson
It's a shock absorber to atop the belt potentially coming off during "American" changes,. They never have got the hang of manual gearboxes I had to put an extra pulley on the outside of the belt run on my Skyline PAS dive belt when I fitted a triple plate clutch as it locked up very hard during race type gear changes and threw the belt. Lude
i removed my tensioner when i remvoed the air con, as the new belt got in the way of the tensioner
BazzaAlpine
This is a daily drive car so the air con will be staying (praying for a good summer, not to mention it helps demist the car on cold mornings). Thanks for the input guys. I won't bother telling the garage to take it off unless they say it's getting in the way.

BazzaAlpine
Is the 2jz head non-interferance? Depends. If the valve drops (as a couple seem to have done in the past few months) it still tends to make a mess
