protect the car from vandals

I was just reading the thread with the guy that got his van repainted and it got me thinking that a load of chavs round where I live are going around smashing up cars and breaking into houses.

I got my house broken in to last year, they/he/she broke in by first trying the window with a screwdriver or something but with no result moved round the back of the house and put a 2 foot rock from the garden though the double glass doors, anyway they got in and searched a load of cuboards, found a load of cash and just went.

the police came, a day later took prints (no prints surprise surprise) and that was that.

so what i need is some way to protect my cars and house.

the house does have a alarm but as the cats were in, it wasn't set, but im worried that if they see the car and out of jealousy smash it up I just dont know how to handle it.

now I cant afford a big set up but I think something needs to by sorted, somesort of cctv but any ideas what sort or other security. as before cheap as poss

I've heard there's a vigilante going round getting these chumps in your area... ;)

Have you got a garage to put your car in?

Also have you got an alarm box on the front of your house to show it's alarmed?

You could put a cover on your car so they don't know what it is so it'll be less of a target, unless they're intrigued and have a check.

No Garage then a car cover is a good idea.

As Josh said an alarm box on the front is a good deterant & a decent alarm within the house. I understand about the cats, but could you maybe just allow them in the living room & switch off the sensor in that room? Leaving the rest of the house alarmed?

In order to beat them, you need to think like them.

CCTV setup is the way forward, they can be brought cheap nowadays. Another good thing is one of them night lights when you are away, where they switch on and off the lights at the period you set them so then it looks like you are in.

Valuables? In our bedroom we have an additional door pin lock system, though who knows where valuables are stored, even if I didn't store things in here, it would catch the thief off!

Our neighbours are also very tight nit & everyone works different hours so constantly on the look out.

I do rent two but there the other end of the village and contain my minis which cant be moved out.

plus the garages are where people I suspect but cant prove sit in there cars and do what chavs usally do.

ye thats the problem mate, the only thing cctv will do is maybe show a face and if I know who it is lets just say I wont be going to the police.

is'nt it a shame, that you work hard every day, pay the bills & taxes, have a little money to buy something nice, (which you deserve) but are to scared to leave it any where incase it gets vandalised.

cats are always put out now but even then the house is abit away from everyone if the person in the house nearest to me is out at work theres no-one that will hear the alarm go off.

its also a bungalow so any room could be got into with a rock they used last time.

it never used to be like that but as the village got bigger more and more d!cks came.

I'm planning on buying a house with my girlfriend in the next year and I just hope there are no pr!ck families where we move into, or that any move to the area. If so I might have to stage a fight between me and a few of my friends with me emerging the victor so they know not to do anything :D

thing is all very well beating them up but like me I bet your supra means the world to you and if you give them a personal grudge its a big target.

Exactly, that's what I'd be worried about.

I'd hate to have a grudge with neighbours as I'd feel awkward every time I went outside the house in case they were out there and something was said or it was just uncomfortable.

I've never had a fight before and don't think I'd resort to violence to solve any problems.
