rear ended this morning

It can be fixed but if the chassis is warped it'll be a bitch to put right - I mean just look at the amount of time it took Peter Sharps to get fixed. It does look dodgy, I mean how the rear wings have buckled like that, they'll cost a lot to get refitted and painted etc.

4/12k 33% worth of the car to fix... dunno what insurance limits usually are.

But 12k can get you a very nice replacement tbh.

You've got some low down chassis damage there, just the bit visible through the number plate hole shows that.

I thought, though, that if it wasn't your fault and it will result in a safe repair, you can insist the other driver's insurance pays for repairs rather than writing it off? As long as it's not beyond the market value of the car?

-Ian

PS the writeoff level is about 60% So 4k should be a no-brainer to sign off!

Back in the day when i had a Vectra GSi, i was rear-ended and the damage was far far worse than what you have. Car was valued at £7.5k and the repairs came to around £3.5k. Shouldnt really be a total loss at all. Hope you get it sorted matey!!!

Spoke to Scott at Sky and asked them to sort Ensign out. New outcome is that the car will not be written off!! :woot:

An engineer is coming out to assess it and I've just had a Toyota Celica with all the electrics and leather (apparently, not seen it yet) delivered for as long as my car is off the road.

Apparently Ensign had forgotten about the guaranteed value part of the policy (glad I paid the extra £20 for this!!). Sky are certainly on my side, so I'm glad I went with them - cheers to Mawby :thanks:

Soz to hear about your rear ender!! I'm a salvage dealer and specialise in jap. Handy for parts!! Some of the cars passed to us from insurance companys you wouldn't believe have been written off! It looks as though the very end of your rear chassis rails have been nudged over a touch. This would explain the 'warping' of your rear quarters. Insurance assesors see this as a big problem, although 9 times out of ten its a fairly straight forward repair. Got everything in my yard for that repair if you're interested, standard bumper, any suspension etc. Hope this helps! Good luck chap. :Plug:

I had to sell my integrale to get my supe. It's cool you've managed to keep both. What one do you have? What type of engineer are you?

I have a Monza Red 16V (1990). As of last Monday, it's in the garage getting the clutch Master Cylinder looked at - typical timing with Supra off road! (although have got Celica now). Getting the waste gate actuator replaced as well, as it's creeping and I'm losing boost.

Not really an 'engineer' as such (change of role), more like a project manager in a large aerospace company - pays for the cars (just!)

I had an Independent Assessor out on Monday to look at the car. I think he was looking to check the £12K value as much as the damage, but reckoned it was easily worth that ("this car is mint") and agreed with the scope of work in the quote from Toyota for the repair. Car is booked in this afternoon :woot: , so hopefully any long lead items can be ordered ASAP!!

Whilst the Celica hire car I have is quite nice, it has absolutely no feeling of 'urgency' when accelerating. Drove the Supra to work this morning so I can take it straight to the garage this afternoon - What a revelation!! Totally different to the Celica:

Far superior driving position

Feels so much more planted

Obviously much more power (although not using anywhere near full throttle until fully repaired)

Better steering response

Masses of 'grin factor'

In all I am now utterly convinced my Supra, even 10 years old, is better than most modern cars in every way. You need a period of time soley driving a normal road car to really appreciate how superior the Supe is now, let alone 10 years ago. :respekt: to Toyota!!

Good cars the old Integrale's. I had exactly the same model as you have. Unfortunately I used it as an everyday car for like 4 years or so and clocked up so many miles on it that it was tired and worn out in the end.

Quite a contrast with the supra as a car. I'm not making the same mistake with the supra though, I use it when I want to, and put the everyday miles on a cheap run around.

You're right though, if you drive a car everyday you get used to it and take it forgranted. I appreciate the supra every time I drive it because its such a contrast to my everyday drive!

Anyway, good luck with the car repairs!
