2.5" or 3"

Happy New Year All,

I have asked you guys once about the custom made exhasut.

Somone mentioned that it should be a 3" or nothing.

I can get a 2.5" from Powerflow but not 3".

What real difference does it make and would you fit a 2.5" system?

Thanks

Are you talking about from the cat back or from the turbo's back?

Most aftermarket cat back zaust's are 3"+ in diameter.

The decat pipes on a Euro/UK spec can be 3" in diameter.

The decat pipes on J-spec really have to be limited to 2.5"

You need to decide what your ultimate goals are for the car.

IMO a 2.5" system will not be good enough.

A pair of decat pipes and an Apex'i, Blitz, HKS cat back is common, cause it works!

Thanks Alex,

I was thinking about the full decat system.

I got a good quote from Powerflow for the whole lot but its only a 2.5".

Do you know whats the stock exhaust size, just to compare?

IMO, I didnt think that the .5" would make such a great difference.

I think I ll go with that.

Thanks

The .5" will make a significant difference when it comes to how freely your exhaust will flow. With turbocharged engines, bigger is better (argueably), you want your exhaust to give you as free a flow of gasses as possible. 3" is the common diameter for the Suup IIRC.

I have just spoken to Powerflow again today and they have verified that they can do a 3 " exhaust and in their opinion I should not put anything smaller on a TT.

I had a quote from them but for a 2.5" so I have to go there again and negotiate my new price.

Thank you all for the best advise.

Thanks Gavin for recomending Leon, if Powerflow should not work out I will get in touch with him.

Have a good weekend

Mongoose do a 3" system from the Turbo back....but its a bit tame in the noise dept.

ALL RIGHT...ALL RIGHT.....I know I've only got a feeble squeek !

You Big Boyz....sorry, Big BORES are all the same !;)

Psychologically, I keep FEELING my Mongoose MIGHT be still holding

mine back a bit....that's probably just because of the 'quiet-ness' ??

[ It HAS done 165 with it on, so no 'high-speed' restriction

(but, perhaps you need a free-er pipe for hard acceleration ? ?) ]

I'd STILL like a little more noise though,

Mongoose = sensible.

BUT,

BIGGER = BETTER :p

[bTW the exit from my Jap turbos is SMALLER than the

exhaust 'pipe itself ! The cat' replace' pipe 'necks-down' slightly to

match the outlet of the turbo ! ~ 2.75" ? so...................? ? ? ?]

FatS.

I thought about the Mongoose to as it works out quite a lot cheaper to have one of those rather than buying a cat back system and then having the cats replaced too.

Having spoken to somebody about it though I decided against it on there opinion. £500 saving on the Mongoose though.....fair few quid.

The mongoose on my old Cossie was quiet to start with....but after 6 months of (ab) use it got louder.:D
