TonytotheB
Hi chaps Has anyone cleaned a brake disk before? Mine have got gunk on them and I want to clear this as the reason for my slight grind. I fear the lack of cleaning and bad roads have lead to this problem. Also, the fact I live in the greenest and most wet place on Earth (Yorkshire) doesn't help Spit and elbow grease? Thanks Teebs
neo2810
Buy a can of "brake degreaser" from halfords and blast away. It's simple enough...
Graham S
WD-40 mate, that'll do the job well! On a serious note, try a motor factors for something called brake cleaner! (I'm not taking the hit and miss either!)
TTRickeh
I would've thought a spirited drive would clear all the gunk off them pretty sharpish
TonytotheB
wd-40 ftw! Thanks. Is it best to remove the caliper unity bit before cleaning the disc? If so, I need new pins! I would've thought a spirited drive would clear all the gunk off them pretty sharpish I would but I fear they might not stop me
Guigsy
Just drive arround somewhere quiet with the brakes on for a bit

Graham S
Driving around with grease on a disc or whatever will only in turn contaminate the pads! Personally i'd go buy a can of brake cleaner aeroso,l spray the disc and turn it at the same time, then wipe it with a bit of clean rag/tissue or whatever you use! Job done, then take it for a drive! Terminator
If the gunk on them contains any grease or oil, do not clean the the disc with the pads in the calliper, as the brake cleaner will just help any grease to soak into the pads.
