Skid pan learning day

I'm thinking of organizing a day's learning at a skid pan...

basically, I used to teach skid avoidance at BMW in South Africa, and I've kinda insisted SupraChick takes her new supra on to a skid pan to learn how far you can push the car and what to do when it does kick out...

Now, I'm sure we are all good drivers, but a little extra tution never hurts, and it is good fun and a good lesson to push the car out under safe conditions..

Just wondering whether other people would be interested in this kind of thing, if there is a few people interested, I'll start making enquiries.

I'll be going as well, because I'm bound to be a little rusty.

I will

It will be based somewhere down south...

Castle Combe perhaps...

Okay, well the first company I spoke to said the following...

Good Morning Gavan

Many thanks for the enquiry. We do get alot of enquiries about bringing own vehicles on the skid pan, which is a perfectly

good question, but unfortunately due to insurance implications we cannot offer this to customers. Also cleaning your vehicles

of the 'substance' afterwards - you would not be too happy!

I would suggest you look at organising smaller sessions ie., the Intensive course as you get alot more driving per person

and if you have all 6 we can tailor the group towards you. The cost is £175 per person for the Intensive - or if you get all

12 for the standard course it is £800 + VAT, as opposed to £85 per person when joining in with others.

I will put brochures in the post to you today - any queries please call.

Yours sincerely

MANAGER DRIVE TECH LTD

I have asked them if they could provide a more rear-wheel drive setup since it is more inline with what we drive...

I will keep this updated..

So if we can get twelve people for the standard course it works out to be around £66.... which isn't bad... altho I think some people would also go for the intensive one (ie suprachick), but lets see what people reckon...

Intensive or standard??

I'm due to go on an assessors course shortly, and I'm considering maybe offering some fast road assessments (ahem) to members if they want it.

Now that is a fantastic idea....

As someone who is up to scratch on the current level of advanced training, it would be a brilliant thing if you would be up for it, I am sure we could compensate you for your time.

I might have to look into getting some track time and organizing a day when you would be willing to do it.

I'm rusty as hell on my advanced driving and I personally wouldn't say no to a few tips and pointers..(no such thing as not enough training and comments)

From what I have gathered so far, most people are up for a standard course, so I will start looking at dates.... any ideas??

Sounds good to me keep me posted !!!

Me too, where is that company based? Hopefully not too far away.

What exactly is the intensive? A long day there?

I suppose the standard would be two short days. If it was quite far away I'd rather do the intensive. :)

The company is based up at Castle Combe....

It was literally the first skid pan place I found via Google, so I sent them an email and their prices actually seemed very good.

How about I try and organize for Mid July time??

Aargh! I'm on holiday in mid July! Don't worry about it, if you're able to fix some dates up, I'll come if I'm around, if not then maybe next time...

Cheers Gav
