Yup, I reckon I'm a worthy winner today.

I decided I needed a remote switch on my carpc as it is quite annoying that even when I am not using it it runs. Prior to doing this I fitted some nice new terminals and did a bit of a cable tidy at the battery end. Anyway, decided to tap into the remote wire leading to the 2nd monitor and carpc so that when I turn the switch off the PC will hibernate and the monitor will turn off. I did, what I thought, was a fantastic job, only to turn on the ignition and for the PC not to come on. I checked the remote cable with a multimeter and was getting nothing between in at the earth, I checked the earth to +ive and it was fine so that pointed directly to the remote cable.

Now, I haven't used my carPC in a bit (disconnected +ive) and I was in the boot over the weekend, so I assumed I had pulled something out...... so off I went pulling out the boot build and removing the rear seat. I then traced the remote cable up to where it splits, and couldn't see anything wrong. Out came the trusty multimeter to see what was going on.....Then the penny dropped......

Yes, I had turned the ignition on, but I hadn't turned the damn stereo on. Due to removing the terminals etc, the stereo reset itself to factory default.... ie off! I never realised so didn't think to turn it on lol. The remote cable I have going to the rear to split for everything is actually tied into the remote output from the stereo.

So off I went, putting everything back the way it was. Tested the switch and bingo, worked a treat :)

Anyone got me beat today? :D

Not today, but yesterday, I pulled up at work and I was still on the phone. Parked up, turned the engine off, stayed on the phone (bluetooth) and was sat there. A colleague who I needed to speak to pulled up, so I cut the call short and got out the car. DOH! Seat belt still on... Pulled me right back in the car

A few weeks ago I went to jump in the car and grab some bits from the shops but on attempting to start the car.. nothing. No clicks or whirs. Now I knew the battery was good as it is relatively new and things such as the electric seats and windows were whirring at a healthy pace. However having suffered at the hands of the ghastly OEM alarm, I thought it must be the immobilizer. I knew it had a lifetime warranty and was barely over a year old but things still break. I tried the fob again and heard a hearty chirp and the locks all clicked... appeared to be responding correctly, but still wouldn't start.

Time to search the flat for the code to bypass it, I looked for a couple of hours before deciding to tackle the problem myself. I checked all the fuses. They all looked OK but still it wouldn't work. I decided to swap them all just in case. Still nothing. Time to search the flat even harder for the code which I found after another hour or so searching. So went outside, bypassed the immobilizer and.... nothing. S**t it must be the wiring? Started to take the dash apart to check the wires. Then I went to move the auto gear stick so I could remove the dash panels when I notice its in R. Click it into P and try again... and it started fine :(

Lol :D

Whenever I buy scratchcards or lottery tickets, even if one loses, I still take them to the shop to check just in case I'm being stupid. I never throw them away without the shop checking ;)
