NA brake cylinder and K-Sport 8 pot brake kit. Anything to worry about ?

So i thought at first about the overkill. Thought what am i doing buying a big brake kit because i rarely push my car to it's limits and besides that it's just a stock NA now ! It's going to look so stupid. But when i got to analyze my other options i came to the conclusion that the K-Sport kit was the best way to go. A UK spec kit was only 300 quid cheaper and i didn't even know if my wheels were going to clear the fat calipers, besides that they look outdated.

Hope i made a good decision though.

It won't look stupid as no one will be able to tell it's an NA until you push it.

I hope you are going to put a TT engine into it or go NA-T otherwise you'll have spent a fair bit of cash that you didn't need to :p

Or when you pop the bonnet and people hope to see a single in there :eyebrows:

My J-Spec brakes have very poor performance and i desperately wanted an upgrade. I've also have had issues with seized calipers and i really thought a brand new aftermarket brake kit will be the best choice on the long term.

The master cylinder will be fine with the K Sport brakes. You also have save quite a few Kilos compared to the UK brake set up. As for the profile of the callipers, the K Sport are slightly wider and higher than the UK calliper on the top shoulder, so you should get hold of a template and mount it on stiff card and try it against your wheels. Any wheels with spokes that curve inwards may have clearance issues with the K Sports. It is no good simply doing a visual check for rough clearance.

Thanks mate. Checked with the template from Paul and it seems ok. Also from the information i was able to gather, the 8 pot K-Sport calipers actually offer better spoke clearance compared to the UK's. The UK spec calipers distance from the hub to the outer edge of the caliper is 39.1mm, whereas the same measurement on the K-sport 8 pots is 32mm.

Another positive thing is that when using 330mm discs the 8 Pot calipers fit under 17" wheels and i'm pretty sure they fit under stock Supra wheels too. But that remains to be seen.

One thing I would check is how much flex there is in the BMC and bulkhead - engine idling get someone to press the brake pedal - you usually get more flex on Supras factory fitted with the smaller brakes compared to Supras with the larger brakes.

If there is excessive flex, a Cusco Brake Cylinder Stopper or Carbing Brace with BMC Stopper will really help firm up the pedal feel.
