hadyn
*bump* anyone got a guide for doing j-spec/na pads?
SupraStar 3000
doing this myself on boxing day. From what I've heard on the board NA J-Spec's don't have location pins so its just two bolts and pads out. I Hope

I Hope Yup, you'd be correct, doddle of a job, don't forget the copper grease
supRo
Hadyn, Remove the brake fluid cap (leave it left off) and put some cloth around the brake fluid reservoir...when you push the caliper pistons in, the pressure may cause over spill. After removing the wheels, remove the retainer spings that bridge the pads, top and bottom of the pads(2). On the caliper, you will see that the pad housing has a bolt on top (I think it was on the back), remove that and the pad housing swings down. This enables you to pull out the pads with their shims. Push in the caliper pistons with a piston tool or large water pump pliers, make sure you don't damage the pistons or the seals. Make sure the piston seals are seated normally without any part of it squashed. Put the shims (should be two for each pad) from the old pads onto the new pads. Lightly grease the outer shim - the side that will make the contact with the pistons. May be worth putting a little on the inner shim that sits on the pad too, you shouldn't really need copper grease if you have the 'anti squeel shims'! AS YOU KNOW, YOU DONT WANT GREASE ON THE DISCS OR THE DISC SIDE OF THE PADS! After putting the pads back together, close the pad housing - you may need to push the pistons in a bit more. Fit the retainer springs back. Replace the bolt but as you can see the bolt goes into a spindle and you may have to hold the inner nut near to that bolt, on the same spindle to tighten the bolt. Fit the wheel back but make sure the disc is seated properly (and no crud or grease is interfering) as it's held on by the wheel nuts. Press the brake pedal a few times gently at first and then with more pressure. Check the brake reservoir after you've done all the pads - there'll probably be overspill. If there's too much fluid, you'll need to remove it - Paper towel is fine as it's quite absorbant and no crap will get into the fluid. Hope these guidelines help. Cheers, Ro
