shima60
Not sure how many of you are into soarers but i thought i'd let you see what i've been upto lately i've copied this from my other thread on the soarer forum so sorry if there is anything out of place.. (Other than the fact its not a supra) I have already started the new build but non the less here is a quick run down of whats been done so far From completely standard. Added 5zigen fn01rc wheels Then i decided i wanted a bit more power so i put a blitz dsbc on and turned the boost up a bit. I also had a 3" exhaust made from turbo back to a hks hi-power back box, This made a noticable change in the power. as shown by the pics below With all this added power i decided it was time to give it a bit of a drag day I didnt get the times i was hoping for but they wernt bad. most of it was down to way to much wheel spin at the start (Over enthusiastic right foot me thinks :lolsign: ) In the end my best time was a 13.9 As usual with soarers that time came where the back end got the better or me unfortunatly this didnt end well for my wheels. (In my defence if you look at the tyres they couldnt grip shat word of warning to buy good tyres not cheap) :hbang: Over the next few stages i didnt get many pictures but i added supra bilsteins and lowering springs and some Rota GTR wheels with Toyo T1r's this time. I also Welded up some custom intercooler piping and got a front mount fitted for that extra cooling. Installed a Exedy clutch to handle a bit more power. Put in some Bucket seats and 4 point harnesses all on harness bolts not ghetto fitted like i'v seen lol. Colder plugs installed and a HKS mushroom filter since the intercooler piping was in the way of the stock air box. Blitz DD BOV kit installed. and red stuff brake pads.. Custom Car pc install running on an alpine amp so far the car stood like this That was all one part of the build up until now. I decided it was time to try something new and add a bigger turbo etc. I have pretty much everything i need now other than a few fuel and oil lines i will be updating this as i go along but for now here's where i'm at. Suspension changed for coil overs Ksport 356mm 8pots installed DTA S80 pro wired up and car running Here are a few of the bits to be installed Bosch 10bar fuel pump Garret T04r turbo recently rebuilt with bb 46mm Wastegate Mocal oil cooler
shima60
Updated the car pc with the software for DTA and plan on having all of my sensors wired up and working instead of having a million and one gauges in the car I have so much to install 850CC injectors and well a lot haha Custom making the exhaust manifold and things like that. :veryhappy got the turbo off finally. Now just have to make a new exhaust manifold Bits for making the manifold bought Sorry about the slow updates christmas etc has been getting in the way but we are getting there. Here is the exhaust manifold as a work in progress. Test fit. we have moved some of the piping around now because of the manifold being very close to the inlet on the turbo. i'll get a picture of the final piece later
Benyon
That looks very nice mate, especially with the black rims. How much would a car like that be worth if it was for sale?
shima60
I Got mine for £5500 stock but its a manual vvti with a black interior and lsd which is rather rare me thinks. You can get a good looking twin turbo for cheap these days £2000+ Depends if it was auto or manual, twin turbo or vvti. Not sure what it will be worth after all the mods i really don't know of any others with these mods in the uk. Swampy may know of some. so far including the car i've only spent £14/15k in total. which isnt to bad. cheers for the reply
Swampy442
I know a bit about Soarers This is a cracking car, well it was before it went in for the mods. I particularly the DTA install When are you getting it back dude? Early TT autos go for peanuts now, there was a nice one on Driftworks for 1400 the other day, IMO these should be worth as much as a TT Supra. VVTI singles are fairly rare, manuals rarer still. shima60
Yea they are a very under rated car i think. But that means cheaper for us I should be getting it back in the next 2 months. Its all down to affording little bits now just hoses and little things. oh and a new radiator. Gaskets blah. Will defo be done for the next drag day up here then hopefully i can get around and go to better tracks hows the aristo coming along? Swampy442
hows the aristo coming along? Erm, yeah lol, Ive got loads of parts ready to go on, but weather stopped play, plus I bought a gearbox for the manual conversion and got royally dry bummed in the process, so Ive just obtained another box from the lovely Steve Spedd, once the manual conversion is done its just a bit of paint, a remap and we're off! shima60
Haha its always the weather. To bloomin cold or wet these days. Even in the garage it is freezing space heaters do fudge all. Ouch that sucks glad you got another one though be awesome with a manual in. did you go for the r154 or the v160? should get yourself up here when its all done and the racing is on or have some fun at suprapod hah. Swampy442
154 mate, I refuse to pay 2 grand plus for a second hand gearbox, 400 quid is much more pallatable lol. And now I have a working box and a scrapper I can rebuild the spare with uprated bits Yeah Ill be at the Pod, already got a challenge in place so why not What rad are you after? Adrian has one for sale I was originally gonna put in one of my Soarers, a fluidyne style big ally job.
shima60
You have a good point and the 154 is a bad ass box i've never seen any problems with them (Apart from your scrapper one it seems haha) What happened with the other box? just mashed up inside? Awesome should be a good weekend. I love Aristo's so be good to see yours in the flesh (Metal?)
j_jza80
Looks like an interesting project. I've been doing a fair bit of research on these VVTi 1JZs recently, there's a thread here: http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?236389-1JZ-GTE-VVTI-install-into-JZA80-Supra-thread I take it you fabricated your own manifold, due to lack of aftermarket ones? I can't beleive how poorly catered for this engine is, there must be loads of these engines in various cars in Japan!
Swampy442
It had been opened in the past, then left dry and open for god knows how long, all the bolts were wrong and badly home manufactured, it was sealed with what looks like bathroom sealant, gear selector rods were corroded and seized, bearings were dodgy etc etc etc. Its my own fault for trying to cut corners as I had a perfectly good box which I sold to get that one, but it came with all the important bits, bell housing, clutch fork, slave cylinder. Anyway this is your thread not mine! Whats your power plans?
shima60
Cool i've defo not seen any supra's with a 1j vvti conversion thats awesome. Your right with the manifold, i spent a good ammount of time looking for a good aftermarket one but there just not available in my price range from japan i think you can get them for 1k etc haha. I like the fact that this one is custom made means i know what has gone into it and that its not been rushed with crap welds etc. Although you can't tell now due to only spot welds to test haha. Shame about the box though. but at least you have a good one now thats the main thing. I tried to cut a corner when i bought that turbo. Then ended up spending £500 getting it rebuilt. Although better bearings and new wheels don't come cheap. As for power i'm not to sure yet. i'll be bringing it in slow but hoping for around 450 - 480 ish. First things are to see what the engine can do reliable if we fail and the bottom goes i'll be tempted to put a 2jz bottom end on and make a 1.5jz

GReddy do a TD06S turbo kit for the JZZ30 1JZ-GTE non-VVTi, not sure what the differences are with the VVTi and whether it'd be possible to modify the manifold to fit. http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/9519/picture1vwb.png
shima60
Unfortunatly the exhaust is completely different different head design. That was one of my options until i realised it couldnt be done. Although in total my manifold has only cost me £160 bargain.
Nic
Found a Japanese company that do a T3 manifold for a 1JZ-GTE VVTi, it is designed to fit a JZX100/JZX110, not too expensive either. http://www.garageminiz.com/PICT05481.jpg

shima60
Ahh yea i've been on that site good find though. I was scared of importing a manifold at the time hah. I'm happy enough now but that will be good info if someone wants to do more looks like a good mani to. So who's going to be the first on here to do a vvti swap thread of there own? shima60
small update So not much updates happening lately Got the fuel rail out ready to fit the new injectors (What a bugger that thing was) Here is the fuel rail ready to be modified to fit the new injectors And last but not least the wastegate starting to be plumbed in haha. soon that should all be done and we can start putting it all together. Sorry for the slow progress, although its killing me not having the car in this lovely weather. Cheers
