w41k3r
After leaving the supra sat for almost 2 month i decided to get of my behind and figure out whether it was clutch or gearbox failure after ringing a helpful gearbox rebuild centre in manchester they told me to run a test of putting it in 4th and seeing if it would drive, if it would drive it wasn`t the clutch...... turns out it drove after having stuck on brakes lol i was hoping for clutch as it needs to be changed for my turbo conversion but o well both now have to be done now question is what`s my better option rebuild what`s wrong with it or get a 2nd hand box ??? any opinions welcome
TubbyTwo
How much is a rebuilt box compared to a 2nd hand one?
tooley
give tameside transmissions a bell...they sorted my old 300zx gearbox a treat when it went im sure they can fix suprs boxes no trouble
w41k3r
might have to do that tooley with the questions he asked me he seems to think it ran low on oil then damaged the input shaft but obviously cant be sure till he looks at it but he says hell look at it and price it up for free another place i rang said price for labour was £200 then parts on top so ?????? Nic
If it's a 5spd box it'd be cheaper to source a replacement.

jackso11
if you are going na-t I would change the box anyway, put either a TT auto box or a v160/161 getrag in it. Otherwise you will be changing it again after your NA-T kills it. Depending on power you are aiming for that is.
Matt H
I'd take the opportunity to invest in a really good replacment 6 speed if you want a manual (might as well if you're going single).
SupraDan24
TBH mate, if your going NA-T and thats eating all your funds, your best bet is to get a TT Autobox as it will handle the power of the NA-T alot better than the 5 Speed will. The auto gearbox's are very good if that helps. If you have your heart set on keeping it manual, then you should really think about getting a 6-Speed box, but that will set you back £2,500. Swings and roundabouts really.
Kirk
give tameside transmissions a bell...they sorted my old 300zx gearbox a treat when it went im sure they can fix suprs boxes no trouble I wouldnt trust tameside as far as I could throw them. Ever since there old gearbox builder left due to retirement I've had nothing but problems with everything I've gave them. Little jobs are fine but full rebuilds I'd do it myself to be honest Edited January 10, 2011 by Kirk (see edit history)
