Gaz6002
Hi all, When you're a US citizen, what do you have to pay to drive a car on the road? I mean like taxes, insurance etc. Any input from our US members would be most appreciated.
johnny g
I think it's state dependant. Gaz. Check with the DMV office.
marc_p
I think it's state dependant. Gaz. Check with the DMV office. Yup, correct, it all depends on the state, for instance, some states have road tax and then other states don't and just add the price of road tax onto fuel. Insurance isn't state dependant though, I know that it works very different there though and if there is not many cases of that particular car being crashed then the insurance is cheap, for instance, my Cousin had a Subaru Imprezza when she was 17 after she just crashed her previous car. Then there is Dazzi on here who had the Supra as his first car as his dad is a US citizen he got US insurance and the insurance was cheap. Gaz6002
Someone mentioned to me about licence plates having tax added onto them too as a way of generating extra income for the governments... I'm trying to find definitive information about it without having to approach each DMV office

There are costs involved in getting a registration, but can't see how you can get any on-going costs apart from maybe the paperwork to have them aligned to the next car.
