2nd car suggestions and how do you go about the insurance ?

Well after all the snow, crap weather and the price of fuel, I am coming to the conclusion that it might be time to semi retire the Supe to weekend fun. Also that means the Supra's off the road for more modifications (already have some bits clogging up the conservatory;))

So I have around £1000-£1500 for a car, needs to be reliabe and fairly cheap to Tax, Insure and run.

Been thinking about a Ford Ka or Pug 306 Diesel, I want something that isnt totally gutless as I will just kill it:taped:

Just wondering how others have gone about insurance, my no claims are on the Supra, so in principle I will have zero no claims.

The wife has her Corolla T-Sport, so there is the option of a 2 car household policy.

I am intending to do the necessary phone calls over the next few days, but just wanted to get some feedback to what others have found the best option

i've got a 1.7 vtec civic coupe for sale cheap on insurance and good on fuel

Pm me the details, I am not ready to buy right now, its something Jen wants me to look at as a possibility

I am not going to rule out the Civic, but just wondering if the insurance has been pushed up by the chav/boy racers, the Nissan Almera would be a possibility also and a hidden gem in Jap car world;)

I will have the other halfs avensis diesel estate going up for sale next year. The most reliable car we have ever owned. It's coming upto 182k miles but everything still works accept the rear window winder but i have never looked into it. A/c is ice cold and 40 mpg.

Wont be until may time though as that's when we get another car as i just want a decent auto estate and the jap dont really do auto's in diesels of that era.

They don't come up forsale that often as it has the early 2.0td engine and not the d4d. It's no rocket ship but should easily see 400k miles

£1500 would be the max budget, as only want it as a runner for work, I will just drive it until it dies

We have the Corolla for a semi sensible car and long runs to the Airport etc and the Supra for fun, so just need a small bucket to drive to and from work

It will be going up for £1k no offers as i would rather keep it as a back up.

I just got rid of my xr3i runabout and bought a saxo vtr to use instead, It's a horrible car to drive and the build quality is horrendous, in short don't buy a saxo.

I am really considering a Ford Ka, I drove one in Tenerife years ago and it was quite a nice drive from what I remember and the wife test drove a brand new one before she bought the Corolla and liked it, but decided she wanted 5 doors.

It would do the job I need, also there is plenty of choice in my budget range

Also I really want to get above the 40 mpg mark if possible, that will get my fuel down to under £25 a week on an average week

What have people done about the insurance when having 3 cars between 2 people, just wondering what people have found to be the best option

I have argued with insurance companies re the NCB being solely on one car as I told them that I am the only person driving both vehicles and thus there would only be one or the other on the road at any one time...so why would they not extend my NCB to both cars to get my business!? Some eventually saw my point and agreed to mark the same NCB to both cars if I took out a policy with them then and there, whilst others told me to politely bugger off!lol!

If you dont ask you dont get and you just have to remember that they want your business!

Re the car I'd prob say a Seat Leon Cupra Diesel...mate has one and he gets ridiculous miles for a car that has a good turn of pace!
