tbourner
My mum's got an aerial in the loft, with 2 cables coming out of it, one goes straight through the ceiling to a freeview box, the other cable goes through a connector onto an extension lead into another room and into a freeview TV. Her next door neighbour on the side where the aerial points has just had a loft conversion, and since then she's not getting enough signal to get a good picture, would it be the new room in the loft blocking the signal? I've checked the connections as best I can, but as it's both TVs gone I guess it's the aerial. The aerial looks OK and is pointing the right way. So how do we fix this with no money and no knowledge? Can you get booster amps or anything? Would they work? Do we need to move the aerial over the other side of the loft (there's another aerial over there with a good signal)? Obviously it'd be best to get it on the roof but I don't have the guts to get up and do that! Plus I'm not sure on extending the wiring. neo2810
Yes you can get boosters but they cost money, and since you want to do this without spending money, I'd say move the aerial to the part of the loft that does recieve the signal ok. stevie_b
Why bother with the 2nd aerial at all? Run all your TVs from the aerial that still gets a good signal. You can join aerial (coaxial) cables together with adaptor pieces to make longer lengths, although for best results use as few joins as possible. tbourner
I don't mind a bit of money but not paying builders to get up on the roof kind of money!! I'll have to get up in the loft and see what connection is on the remaining aerial, then decide if I can T off it.
Rob
B&Q do connectors and splitter/junction boxes for co-ax cable. Its easy to join up, I managed it, you just gotta make sure all the outer threads are not shorting anywhere. I suppose its possible if the new interior had lots of dense materials and metal studding for plasterboard it could interrupt the signal. Digital seems to be more corruptable than the old analogue. ivan
I'd boost the signal from the other aerial and 'T' off of that if I were you. I'm running 4 TVs from an attic aerial here, a mix of freeview and analogue.
Chris Wilson
I would rejoice in getting any decent sort of signal from a loft aerial. Only 3 of the 4 normal channels are watch able and we lost many Freeview channels when they re tuned and dropped transmitter power. being tight I am awaiting April when the power goes up, otherwise I will have to put an aerial on the chimney stack. Good luck. BTW, did you see the Greenland gods on TV last night, on a documentary about old skill hunters in Greenland? Big brutes! Hope the rescue work is coming along, sterling work!!
