SUPRALOOPY
my work have a borascope and i was thinking that....if i took my plugs out i would be able to see if the car was running lean by looking at the tops of the pistons for nasty stuff. can i do this and will it tell me anything?? merckx
I wouldn't think there was any need to do it that way, just look at the colour of the plugs. Nice to have a look though!

JohnA
I've got a video where borascopes are used in non-automotive applications (ooooops, wrong forum )
Chris Wilson
Unleaded fuel has made plug reading a waste of time. It was the lead deposits that gace the readings. I bought a very expensive medical bore scope a bit ago, a Godsend for looking to see if any bore or piston damage has occured without pulling the head, or looking inside axles and gearboxes. but useless for mixture analysis
JohnA
A borascope can be invaluable if you're buying used engines, which you cannot see running. How much would a decent one cost then?
Chris Wilson
I think this used one, with the light source, was about 1k. Expensive, but I use it a lot and it's already paid for itself. You can pay a LOT more than that!
