How hard is it to change the steering wheel?

When it comes to DIY I'm very much bodge.. But a steering wheel seems very important :D

I got a MoMo steering wheel and boss kit and wanted to fit it over the weekend.. If all else fails do Halfords fit things? Failing that I may know someone who would help me..

Anyone written a guide or know a few screen shots of it being done? Just want to do something to my car myself! If that makes sense.

Thanks

No idea if the non-airbag wheel is the same but if it is...

There are 2 torx screws, one in either side of the wheel. These will often be covered by a plastic flap. If you look in good light you will see it no bother. Remove both of these screws (one on either side, near indicator and wiper stalk).

Once removed pull the centre of the wheel out towards you. This may be attached inside so don't pull to hard, the horn earth might be short (not sure on your wheel).

Once off you will have access to the centre nut, make sure your wheel is straight (as above) and loosen the nut off so that it is being held on by a couple of threads.

Bang the wheel one side at a time to loosen it off towards you then try to pull it off evenly. The reason for leaving the nut on a few threads will come aparent when the wheel rapidly accelerates towards your head.

Take the nut off and remove the wheel.

Depending on differences in the wheels there may be slight changes in where you remove the horn connection etc but it should be fairly straight forward.

OK to give an update. My wheels weren't straight so thought I'd start the car and get that right. My sodding luck, I think the alternator has been draining my battery! I also have a sigma s30 immobiliser installed and unless u type the pin in correctly,

you can't start the car

Out of interest, do you know what size torx screwdriver I'll need. I have a mini toolkit with about 5 different torx heads, I could just go outside and try all five, but just thought I'd ask anyhow..

My guess is around T25, might be T30. I don't think it's as small as a T20 but take that out as well just in case :D
