Westcoaster
Weather on the A9 is a bit dodgy at this time of year, but if I were you, I'd take the road to Ullapool on the north west coast instead. I'm happy to be corrected, but John O'Groats is a bit of a disappointment and the last 100 miles are not the prettiest of Scottish roads! Avoid the A9, head up the A82 through Glen Coe, Fort William and Ullapool and you'll really appreciate it....the A9 is horrible and as above, John O'Groats is a bit meh.
