Thorin
Er, what do you need drivers for exactly, I'm not sure I understand what you want.
stevie_b
Best thing to do is go to the manufacturer's website for each piece of kit you need a driver for, and download it from there. There isn't a one-stop-shop for device drivers.

Oh okay, just that i searched and found Driver Whiz and that scanned my pc and said there were lots missing but could upload all of them for approx £30. I need a sound driver and one for the disc as far as i know, my pc died and a good mate who was updating his works pc's gave me one of his old towers as theres nothing wrong with them, running xp pro, its got Systemax and Venture written on the front of it I love you Dunk - You make me look like Bill Gates Who's Bill Gates Glad to be of service Colin

JustGav
Don't pay for something that they can't REALLY charge for (other than the service of providing them)... http://driverpacks.net/
stevie_b
As far as i can figure i need a sound driver and one for disc drive Hmm, I'm suspicious. "Disc drive" could mean DVD-ROM drive or floppy drive, but neither should need a downloadable driver to make it work. As for the sound driver, do you have sound (music, not just beeps) coming out of your PC's speakers? If you have, then you already have an appropriate driver and no action is necessary. It sounds like one of those flashing banner ads that say, "Your Windows PC is at risk. Click here to run a virus scan!!!1!!" What they really mean is, "click here, give us your email address and we'll send you spam (and maybe a couple of viruses) until the end of time." JustGav
For 95% of the stuff especially on an older PC, windows update should pick up the right drivers.. For the odd one that appears in control panel as unknown, look for some for something called VEN and DEV ids and those are the ids you need to find the driver.... Do a basic install, let windows do it's magic and report back whats missing

stevie_b
Ah, OK. As Gav said, if you go to Control Panel > System > Hardware tab > Device Manager button, anything without a driver should appear with a question mark icon. You might be able to right-click those items and ask Windows to get a driver for them, but I'm not sure if that works. If it were me I'd pop the case open, find the make/model of the DVD drive and sound card (if it's on-board sound, look for the make and model of the motherboard) and go to their websites to download the drivers. Don't need to, if you have the PCI DEV and VEN codes

No great suprise, audo and video are usually the troubled ones, if you left click on them and properties, there will be the magic VEN DEV pci info that we need (Picking up a theme yet hheheheh)

Dnk
Hmmm lol is this in the general, driver or details tab ? cant see anything like the numbers you posted in the details tab i found 1106
JustGav
http://listing.driveragent.com/b/pci_print/8086/4229?q=8086+1106 Was the 1106 the DEV number? Because 8086:1106 is an intel wireless card, 8086 is the intel VEN id (Lets see how many geeks work out why )
Dnk
Do you want the device instance i'ds or the hardware i'ds ?
TonytotheB
Dude, put some work in and save £30. Those things are bogus. Just use "Device Manager" and use "Update driver". Go to the manu's website and download them. Plus XP has been out for ages and most things just work. Windows 7 here and it is a dream... Get something called Everest - it tells you everything including CPU temps, graphics temps etc
