Bloody Windscreen Cracked

Animal

Recommended Posts

I picked up a stone chip driving to work yesterday, near the bottom corner, driver's side. Was going to get it fixed this week, but came out this morning and now its a crack about 3" long. Stupid freezing weather.

I've had mates drive around for years with chipped screens, I get one and it gets worse overnight! At this rate it'll have fallen out competely by the end of the week.

Oh well, let's see what Sky say...

How old is the wind screen bud? Mine's got a stone chip as well and I will be replacing it with the later type screen with sunstrip. After 17 years there are loads of scratches that becomes even more evident in sunlight, a new windscreen is only a good thing, unless it will set you back stupid money, mine is £50 fitted from auto glass through my insurance company.

Bah. The first number Sky gave me (National Windscreens) don't deal with the broker I'm with.

AA Windscreens do, but the soonest they can do it is a week on Saturday. Hopefully my screen will stay in one piece 'til then.

Put some superglue or tape on it till then :D

Check the fine print. I'm with Swift Cover on my daily and even though I don't loose my NCB claiming for a windscreen repair, I don't get another year's No Claims added on at the end of the policy. Which I think sucks.

I wonder if this is the same for other insurers?

I had a windcreen replaced on the Supra last summer due to a small chip that became a 1.5 foot long crack in the space of 48hours. My insurance company told me that National Windcreens would be replacing my screen, so they turned up mid-week with the windscreen, unfortanatley they couldn't get the rear view mirror bracket off my old screen so I was told that the guy would return the next day to fit the part.

Next day comes along and I hear nothing and the day after that by about lunchtime I still hadn't heard anything so I rang them only to be told that the guy would return the following day. Bit peed off at this stage. Next day the guy turns up and finishes the job so I sign a reciept and he gets on his way is sharpish. After he left I went out to check the job he had done (I should've checked before he left, I know) and noticed that the rearview mirror was wobbling about very loosly, this was because the screw was not done up properly and the screw was not done up properly because the torque drive had been badly rounded off on the screw!

Was not easy, pillock had put some sort of thread lock on the screw, but i fixed it myself as I have access to an engineering workshop, there was no way I was going to call them back so they could mess up my car even more.

Conclusion: National Windscreens had done a terrible job at replacing a windscreen on a Supra

Rant over :D

No because what you have said is a total exaggeration

I think you need to do your research on car windscreens, ive had a supra with a cracked/cracking windscreen and ive messed about with car glass, youd be suprised how easy glass can shatter due to cracks...

Ive cracked and broken a fair few windows on many cars.

Windscreens have a laminate to stop them "shattering", you talk as if its a ticking timebomb, it isnt going to cave in on your lap.

Actually they are double laminate....i didnt mean it will cave it, it will just shatter and he wont be able to see, could result in a crash. Just not worth it imo.
