SupraDan24
Hi guys, i recently bought a compressor and cheap spray gun to spray the fibreglass uprights on my TRD spoiler with the intention of spraying my engine plastics (spark plug cover etc) and dash when the weather gets nicer. I know i can get them done professionally, i'm just doing it as a hobby as i like doing it. The gun was the only one i could find short notice, so went with it just to get by. Quite frankly, its terrible lol. Its really hard to spray with and even harder to get a good finish with. Soooo i'm looking to upgrade and get one i'm going to have less problems with, problem is, i really dont know what to look for in a gun. Should it be Suction or Gravity fed etc? Has anyone got any suggestions?? Thanks
Shane
I found the cheapie gravity fed gun I bought from ebay for about £12 was so much easier to use than the suction gun that came with the compresser. It was much easier to keep it at the right angle when spraying low down areas, easier to set up and easier to clean.
evinX
Just get a small good quality touch up gun, as your only painting small parts and not big panels? id go with a touch up and if your new to all this it would be the perfect start to good finishes

dude
Try an HVLP if your comp is man enough, a lot less messy and will not use as much paint, the top ones in supracars link look pretty good.

Dnk
Whatever gun you buy fit a water trap between the gun and the compressor.

SupraDan24
water traps are important! as i take it your be painting in the garage or made up tent?? Painting in my Garage rob, i've cleaned it all out and put sheets down ready for when i get back. Its for doing bits like the dash, engine plastics ie SP cover etc. Nothing major. I've got a Top Secret II bumper on the way in primer as well, not sure whether to have a shot at it or not lol. I learnt alot while spraying my TRD Spoiler uprights. Dnk
Doesnt matter where your spaying, even in a nice warm workshop compressors chuck out loads of moisture and should drained on a regular basis along with using water traps. If you get moisture in any of the coats sooner or later you'll get micro blistering. It would also pay to get a proper heater, the little devil blow jobs are pretty good
