ray007
Hi all, need some advice on which diff to use of the 2 following conversions; 1. Aerotop n/a - to be converted to tt with w58 box 2. Aerotop tt - r154 gearbox to be installed I would like any advice on which diffs I should go for on the above conversions and what is compatible and some propshaft advice would also be much appreciated Many thanks
Swampy442
The diffs are the same size regardless of LSD or not, the only difference is diff size is the TT 6 speed which is larger. I believe the n/a has a lower ratio. Also if you use a W58 box get the prop shaft from that conversion and vica versa the R154
TTRickeh
The diffs are the same size regardless of LSD or not, the only difference is diff size is the TT 6 speed which is larger. I believe the n/a has a lower ratio. Also if you use a W58 box get the prop shaft from that conversion and vica versa the R154 The TT 6 speed pre-facelift is bigger, will require different a driveshaft(s?), and I think has the 3.13 final drive ratio (the UK spec 6 speeds do, anyway). The facelift tt6 diffs are the smaller size with 3.266 final drive, or you could go for the tt auto 3.76 final drive which is more suited to acceleration than top speed. I'd search for Homer's diff/gear ratio calculator spreadsheet on here and mess about with the diff/gearbox combos until you find a top speed/gear specific speed you're happy with. Not sure about differences in prop compatibility with different gearboxes though, sorry. Will the w58 hold tt/bpu power?
ray007
Can anyone advise on the compatibility of the Gearboxes and diffs please
Homer
Can you elaborate on what you mean by compatibiilty Ray? Any diff can be fitted to any gearbox, it's the drivehshaft that needs the work to make them fit. Here's how I see it with regard to the gear ratio's: TT & w58 would be best to have the LSD NA diff, this will help keep the gear ratio's in check TT & r154 would again be best to have the NA diff. The R154 is a long geared box, even higher than the v160 and v161, so the diff ratio needs to be kept short.

Thanks Darryl What I meant with compatibility is with the propshafts, I gues for the r154 I'd have to get one made? Also what's your opinion on using an auto tt or auto n/a diff with one of the boxes?
